Slip Sliding Away!

Plans can be made and plans can be changed. I woke up this morning planning to bake a batch of cookies to send away to our son. My daughter was up and headed to work. I had the first batch of cookies in the oven when the phone rang. Katie had hit a patch of black ice, spun around on the road, and landed backwards in a nice ladies front yard taking out a good section of her wooden fence. The lady was very sweet and invited Katie in while she waited for me to arrive and figure out what to do next. While watching from the window Katie saw another car spin out of control and hit the front of her car even though it was well off the road. YIKES! A total of 3 cars had to be towed from this location.

I was so happy that Katie was fine just shook up from the wild ride. The only damage she caused was to her own car and that poor fence. She missed 2 cars in the driveway.

The Brier Police that came to the scene were very kind and helpful beyond their obligation. They even waited behind my parked car with their lights flashing until the tow truck arrived.

The tow truck driver that came in response to our AAA call was also very concerned and kind.

The police stayed until the car was completely on the bed of the tow truck! When we got home Katie called our insurance company and I finished baking the cookies, packed up a box to mail to our son and packed up a gift box of cookies to deliver to the Brier Police Station for the officers that took such good care of my daughter! Thank you officers Willey and Murphy!

We delivered the cookies to the police station, stopped at the post office to send off the cookies and then we decided we deserved a nice lunch and boy did we find a great one at Gratzi Italian Restaurant in Bothell. As you can see Katie is fine. Even after this great lunch we weren’t done yet salving our wounds…

Cookies and a nice cup of English Tea continued the healing from our ordeal…

I’m thanking God for watching over Katie, keeping her from being hurt, and sending kind people to care for her.

Hug your loved ones today!

Photobucket is holding all my photos that I stored on their site from 2007-2015 hostage replacing them with ugly grey and black boxes and asking for a large ransom to retrieve them. It is a slow process to go through all my posts deleting the ugly boxes.

  1. Oh my goodness! So thankful Katie is unhurt. Nothing like a cup of tea and some yummy cookies to ease the jitters! What a lovely thing to bring cookies to the officers, Ellen.

  2. VERY thankful she is fine…although it does still set the heart spinning when you hit ice…been there done that. Good for you taking the officers cookies…I don’t think they get enough thanks….even if it’s considered there job.

  3. Oh my, what a day you have had. I am glad to hear that Katie is alright. And you are so sweet to deliver the goodies to the police station! Baby is already asleep, but I will give her a special hug when she wakes up in the morning.

    Blessings!

  4. To each day its own troubles! But you had many blessings today as well. I’m so glad Katie is fine and nothing worse happened; and how wonderful such kind people were involved in the whole process.

  5. Sounds like a dangerous patch of road right there! Glad she’s okay, and I’m thankful for our civil servants. The kids and I are baking cookies for the firemen who work nearest our house. They’ve had to stop by here a time or two since we’ve lived here. 🙂

  6. Oh Ellen, that is quite a story…I am so thankful that your daughter was not injured nor had whip lash. How thoughtful of you to bring cookies to the police department. Bless you all.

  7. I’m so glad no one was hurt. What a morning this turned out to be. But how nice of you to give the cookies. You didn’t take some to the lady whose fence got torn down? I knew right away from reading this that she was going to not be a grouch which is good. I’m just glad that Katie is a okay….

  8. I’ve never experienced black ice but it must be a helpless feeling! And to watch as another car spun and hit her…wow that was a dangerous spot! Food is a great rewarder. It covers jitters and says thanks.

  9. Poor Katie! That must have been terrifying, but at least she’s ok! The idea of driving in snow has always terrified me so I’m thankful I don’t have to do it.
Oh, Ellen B., I forgot to say congratulations about Katies changes she’s made in her life…Yay!!!!

  10. I heard that there were quite a few automotive mishaps in the general area, even one car that ended up crashing into the side of some retail store. I’m glad that your daughter is ok!

  11. Wow, sounds like quite a day for you and Katie. I know right where that house is, so glad the owner was nice about it. Fences and cars can be fixed, people sometimes not so easy. Glad Katie was fine, and that lunch was certainly just what she needed (plus the cookies of course!). Ha.

  12. I”m so thankful, along with you all, that Katie wasn’t hurt. Black ice is treacherous. We’re having a snowy day here on the Island. I’ve already heard of a few cars in the ditch. A good day to stay home.

  13. So glad Katie was ok! And aren’t you sweet to take the cookies to the Officers..but then I knew you were sweet!
I really am afraid of ice..walking on it makes me nuts!

  14. Really glad to know AAA was such a big help…they’re pretty amazing..!! They always do what they can to be of help…
