Rain in the Forecast…

There is rain in the forecast for California. Rain effects Southern California different then the Pacific Northwest. Things get cancelled because of rain in California. Rain is to Southern California what Snow is to the Pacific Northwest. When we first moved to the state of Washington from California where we were born and raised we were shocked with what people did in the rain. Roofers would be roofing, concrete was being poured in the rain, parties in parks went on in the rain, people barbecued in the rain. After living in the Seattle area for 20 years we got real used to doing everything in the rain. The only sport that gets cancelled because of rain is baseball. Here in California everything slows down because of the rain. Thankfully people slow way down to 65 miles an hour on the freeway instead of going 80. So I’m looking forward to a couple of slow days here in California. We’re hoping that the rain doesn’t cause too many mudslides on our freshly burned hillsides. People here in the Southern California area are also hoping for a Freeway Series….L.A. Dodgers vs. the Angels!

Hoping to get a walk in this Tuesday Morning before the skies open up! Have a good Tuesday everyone…

Photobucket is holding all my photos that I stored on their site from 2007-2015 hostage replacing them with ugly grey and black boxes and asking for a large ransom to retrieve them. It is a slow process to go through all my posts deleting the ugly boxes.

  1. OH My goodness Ellen….that is one of the prettiest flowers I’ve ever seen. I love it šŸ™‚ Here’s hoping for a Freeway Series šŸ™‚

  2. Fun flower…I remember in college when I flew down to Dallas to spend a long weekend with a friend…they had a skiff of snow and the whole University shut down and people didn’t know how to drive AND THERE WAS NO HAZARD…except it was so unknown to most of them. We’re wishing for no rain around here for a while so farmers can get their crops harvested….

  3. What a beautiful picture of that flower!

My mind can so not wrap around canceling things for rain. We don’t even cancel stuff for blizzards. LOL. Yes we seem to be from much hardier stock up here!

  4. Well, it caught me by surprise! I had just read that a storm was coming through but that we shouldn’t expect any rain. That’s what you get (slightly outdated weather news) when you don’t watch TV or listen to the radio!

  5. Oh my, what a lovely shot of the flower – is that a cornflower?

I heard on the news about the rain in Southern CA, and thought of you! I hope you get to enjoy a few slow, rainy days — great for snuggling under the covers with a good book! šŸ™‚

  6. There’s rain in our forecast as well…but the show must on! We’re heading your way…so I hope your rains are short-lived since we are coming in search of sunshine. Beautiful flower pic!

  7. Hi Ellen, I’m reveling in the rain. Well, it’s not raining now, but the skies did open up about 6:15 this morning here in Long Beach! The wind is blowing now and the skies are dark….it’s wonderful.

I have to go somewhere this afternoon….yes, I’m a native Southern Californian, and driving around in the rain makes me nervous. But I’ll be extra careful of those other drivers….

    Enjoy your cool, wet day.

  8. As a native Oregonian, I’ve noticed the differences in attitudes to any precipitation here in Southern California. A true Oregonian doesn’t carry an umbrella; it’s just not worth it. Since we haven’t had any rain in six months, I am happy to see it today!

  9. What a sweet photo of the flower! I think in the Northwest nothing would occur outdoors if they called rain delays. In California, we kind of look forward to a few cozy days indoors….a few!

  10. Your post reminded me of the first time I saw people sailing in the rain on the Columbia River. It was raining, of course, and they all had their yellow slickers on. Not just a few boats out there either. Lots and lots of them! I said something incredulous to my hubby, a native Oregonian, and he responded that if they didn’t go sailing in the rain, they’d never get to go!

  11. Cancelling because of rain? Here on the Island an outdoor track and field meet might be cancelled – if it’s a deluge. But that’s the only rain cancellation I’ve heard about.

Now blizzards? We cancel for them – and love to stay in nice and cozy.
