I finished the 6th book in the Anne of Green Gables Novels last night and wanted to share this quote for the beginning of September.
“Well, that was life. Gladness and pain…hope and fear…and change. Always change! You could not help it. You had to let go of the old go and take the new to your heart…learn to love it and then let it go in turn. Spring, lovely as it was, must yield to summer and summer lose itself to autumn. The birth…the bridal…the death…”
~Anne of Ingleside, L.M. Montgomery.
After typing this quote my mind went straight to the great truth in this hymn and the verses in Philippians that follow…
Great is Thy Faithfulness
Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father;
There is no shadow of turning with Thee;
Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not;
As Thou hast been, Thou forever will be.
Refrain
Great is Thy faithfulness!
Great is Thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see.
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided;
Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!
Summer and winter and springtime and harvest,
Sun, moon and stars in their courses above
Join with all nature in manifold witness
To Thy great faithfulness, mercy and love.
Refrain
Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth
Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide;
Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow,
Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside!
Refrain
Philippians 3:12-16 (The Message)
“I’m not saying that I have this all together, that I have it made. But I am well on my way, reaching out for Christ, who has so wondrously reached out for me. Friends, don’t get me wrong: By no means do I count myself an expert in all of this, but I’ve got my eye on the goal, where God is beckoning us onward—to Jesus. I’m off and running, and I’m not turning back.
So let’s keep focused on that goal, those of us who want everything God has for us. If any of you have something else in mind, something less than total commitment, God will clear your blurred vision—you’ll see it yet! Now that we’re on the right track, let’s stay on it.”
Things change, God doesn’t
We press on without fear.
We’ll make it to the end.
What a wonderful future we have in Christ.
What beautiful flowers. I always love the sights and thoughts you share on your blog.
You’ve shared a great quote and it’s interesting how that leads to another worthwhile hymn. How true.
Love all your passages – and the hymn is one of our favourites.
Love that quote, and the hymn!!! The verses are powerful – as God’s Word always is… “we press on without fear” – I love that!
Have a blessed day, Ellen – and Happy September!
Lovely photos, lovely thoughts. You hit on one of my ‘life verses’. Great is Thy faithfulness! Indeed.
Lovely post…amen and amen!
You can’t hear this enough…lovely!!
I hope you are safe….the fires look and sound so powerful…. on TV.
Anyone who loves the Anne books, LM Montgomery, the Bible and the wonderful old hymn has to be a ‘kindred spirit’. I popped over here from the food blog, Mennonite Girls Can Cook and I’m so glad I did!
Beautiful flowers!
Lovely post! Beautiful photos, and I love the quotes and songs that remind us of God’s great faithfulness through change, trial, and joy! I want to re-read the Anne books sometime in the next year– thanks for reminding me to do it. :o)
One of my favorite hymns! Love it, now I have it singing through my head!
Beautiful flowers too. Are they a type of black eyed Susan?
You wove this together so well. Good reminders and I loved the collage.
great quote….it’s been sooo many years since I read those books.
Pardon my ignorance, what’s the name of this flower? Just amazing color … a kind of daisy? My fave pic is the fence, right in the middle. Thank you for an artistic display, and, words from the Scriptures never fail. That’s why I come over regularly for encouragement with verses such as these. Thanks Ellen for the reminder!
Good things to meditate on whether the day has been a good and busy one or a crazy and wretched one. Thanks, Ellen.
Love the Anne quote and the thoughts from the Bible it led you to. Good reminders!
Oh Ellen, this is the most beautiful picture I’ve seen!
AND the song! My head instantly swam with the tune!
I love coming here…it is like a drink of sweet tea on a hot afternoon! (with lots of ice!!)
Amen, and thank you. I needed The Message tonight.
Love the galardias.
