Friday’s Fave Five ~ The Great Northwest…

Thank you to Susanne at Living to Tell the Story for starting this weekly event where we consider the last week and share some of our favorite things.

My favorites this week are the things I love about being home in The Northwest. On Sunday we leave the Seattle area bright and early and drive 1200 miles back to Southern California where Dear and I have been living the last 3 years.

One of my favorite things about the Northwest are the trees. I really enjoy big trees. When I look out the windows of my house I can see sky and trees. I can see the sun setting from my bed in my upper story. Early for bed you think? Maybe, but remember in the summer the sun sets later in the great Northwest!

I enjoy pampering my kids and feeding them when I’m here even though they are adults and can fend for themselves. I probably run the dishwasher once maybe twice a week at our little condo in Southern California. When I’m home in Washington I run it once sometimes twice in one day! It’s also fun to see the kids spend one on one time with their dad. Each of our kids is so unique and it’s fun to see this come out in what kind of things they do with their dad…

I love my hairdresser here in Seattle and Friday I’ll get my hair cut and roots taken care of  before I head back South.

This is Sherri cutting my daughter Katie’s hair…

Some of my favorite places to shop are Goodwill in Washington and the Fred Meyer stores. I know there are Goodwill stores in every state but the ones in Washington just seem to be cleaner and better organized.

I really enjoy the space I have around my home in Washington. It’s not huge just about 1/3 acre but that affords privacy and quiet that I don’t get in Southern California.

Now just to be fair to Southern California I will post my favorite things about Southern California and my little condo soon!!

Click on over to Susanne’s on Friday to see more favorites or to join in the fun!

Photobucket is holding all my photos that I stored on their site from 2007-2015 hostage replacing them with ugly grey and black boxes and asking for a large ransom to retrieve them. It is a slow process to go through all my posts deleting the ugly boxes.

  1. Hi Ellen…good to visit here again, I can’t believe it iss time for you to go back to California…it seems like yesterday you were heading to Seattle!

Thanks for visiting my skies this week. Good to catch up!

My daughter arrived from NY this morning early…erg…everybody is erg…asleep…!!

  2. Beautiful post. I remember some photos you shared once…if I get brave I might venture in ours and take comparison photos…NOTHING like the treasures you seem to find. I hear Oregon has some nice thrift stores also. :o) Maybe on your way home….

  3. Hi Ellen,

Have been out of the pocket — I will look forward to catching up with your blog.
Have a great and safe trip back to So. CA. I love that part about your kids spending time with their Dad!

  4. I love your pictures of the Seattle area. I too love trees and would really miss them if I lived in an area that didn’t have them.

LOL that we both had cooking for our adult children.

  5. Interesting pictures…It’s all about beauty and the family. It seems several of us thrive on that thread this week. Feels like we are winding down or up, but we can tell that Fall is just around the corner and a new season begins again.
Photos are superb. We’re heading out that way as a family to see “Wicked” in Sept. Am looking forward to going to the Fishermen’s Market.

  6. Going to bed at sunset — that does sound early! It does seem so recent that you were trekking up to Seattle. But maybe it’s because you were back down here for the memorial service. Enjoy your time – wherever you are!

  7. Sounds like you have the best of both worlds! Summer in the northwest and winter in so. California!

I love the photos you shared with us! I adore trees so much …

It is difficult finding someone you like to do your hair! I guess you visit her every time you’re in Seattle?

  8. I have not thought of Fred Meyer stores in a long time. Those are the Pacific Northwest.

I love taking care of my grown kids too. When they leave the house I always clean something, I don’t want to do it when they are around to make them uncomfortable, but I sneak the cleaning in 🙂 And I always cook and they love it.

  9. You love your hairdresser… too!! (mine) They hold our secrets!!
NW living provides an endless list of wonders!
Your kids must love you loving them!!

  10. Nice photos. I love trees too. It’s great to look at them, even greater to sit enjoy their shade with some cool breeze on the face. My aunt and her family made a road trip from Seattle to North Carolina a couple of weeks back. I wonder how long is that drive or if it’s similar to your Seattle-Southern California drive.

  11. Great post….I’ve been wondering why you seem to go between Washington and S California.

Love the photos of the trees! I, too, love trees and the sun goes down very late here in Central Alberta – in the summer time, that is (you know that)

Your point about your kids is heart warming. You’ve heard it said that grandchildren are the reward of being a parent? Well, the first reward is adult children who are your friends. You seem to have achieved that reward.

  12. How interesting your insights are Ellen. Living in both places probably makes you more keenly aware of the differences. Washington sounds awesome!
