Christos Voskress! Voistina Voskress!
Христос Воскрес!
Воистину воскрес!
This is one of my favorite Easter Hymns that we used to sing every Easter at Bethany Baptist Russian Church in Los Angeles!
Low in the Grave He Lay
Low in the grave He lay, Jesus my Savior,
Waiting the coming day, Jesus my Lord!
Refrain
Up from the grave He arose,
With a mighty triumph o’er His foes,
He arose a Victor from the dark domain,
And He lives forever, with His saints to reign.
He arose! He arose!
Hallelujah! Christ arose!
Vainly they watch His bed, Jesus my Savior;
Vainly they seal the dead, Jesus my Lord!
Refrain
Death cannot keep its Prey, Jesus my Savior;
He tore the bars away, Jesus my Lord!
Refrain
This is my all time favorite Easter hymn…loved it in childhood too.
Wishing you a blessed Easter as you celebrate our Risen Jesus!
I too love this song! I remember in all the little country churches hearing the different pieces of harmony….’up from the grave He arose’ (He arose – repeated by the bass). What an uplifting hymn! Have a blessed Easter
I love this hymn too – also In Christ Alone – we sang that one this morning.
Christos Voskress! Voistina Voskress!
Христос Воскрес!
Воистину воскрес!
(did I impress you with my Russian?? 🙂
Easter Blessings!
Alas, we didn’t get to sing this hymn this morning, but with your post, I get to sing it, too! Happy Easter, Ellen! Христос Воскрес! (I can copy-paste like the best of them!)
Ellen – I have absolutely too many hymn favorites. Yes, this is a good one. Full of joy with you in our wonderful and gracious Savior Jesus Christ. He is risen indeed!
I love the photo…and that hymn–my mother used to thunder that out on the piano. It was one of my favorites. Happy Resurrection Day!
Such a wonderful hymn that I’ve never heard, but perfect for the Easter celebration.
Have a wonderfully Blessed Easter Ellen B.

Haven’t sung this hymn in some time…but I, like Nikkipolani, am singing it in my head with your posting..thx.
Easter Blessings
Amen! Isn’t it good to have these songs from our youth to still inspire us today?
We sing this song every Easter at our church. I love it too. Thank you for the Russian Easter Greeting. And I hope you’ve had a blessed Easter with your family.

I once played this on the piano while my brother played the trumpet for offering. I love this song too .. Oh death . ..where is thy sting?
Happy Easter Ellen. . .I hope you enjoyed your kulich. .
Христос Воскрес!
Воистину воскрес!
One of my favorites too… The Lord is risen indeed! Thanks for all the uplifting Easter posts.
I was so busy celebrating yesterday that my Easter greetings are a bit late. But every day is the day to celebrate Christ’s resurrection and what it means to us. So Happy Belated Easter, Ellen! I hope yours was every bit as joyful as mine!
One of my earliest Easter memories was the singing of this hymn. We didn’t sing this at church yesterday, but I appreciate you bringing the wonderful memories back to me by posting this hymn. Blessings.
I loved the picture. I was singing that song this week and hoping we would sing it in church….but they sang more modern ones.
I can still hear my Dad singing, Up from the grave he Arose!…with his low bass voice. These songs will live in our hearts forever.
and next MONTH when I still have this song in my head I’ll be sure to remind you that you started it!
