For my Met Monday this week I am at my home in the state of Washington. Usually I’m at my condo in Southern California. My before and after project was completed today during a short period of time while the rain was not falling here. I’m not a gardener by any means but my Pear Tree really was in need of a pruning. All I know about pruning a tree is that branches that grow straight up are the ones to go after. (I sure hope that’s true). So here is my pear tree with all those unsightly branches that are growing straight up…
I got the trusty pruning tools out of the garage and started to work all by myself…
Here is the result after about an hour and a half. And this next collage shows the before and after from the same angle.
I hope I didn’t kill it. Time will tell.

Photobucket is holding all my photos I stored with them from 2007-2015 hostage unless I pay them a lot of money. I’m slowly cleaning up many posts from this time period and deleting their ugly grey and black boxes with a ransom request. Such a time consuming bother.
You’re a brave woman. 🙂
I love it. I bet it feels so good to be pruning your own tree at your own house. I’m not sure about pear trees…… but it looks better!
I don’t know about pear trees. But the one good thing is that if there are pears on all the branches you’ll be able to REACH the ones that aren’t straight up, way above your head.
Oh I hope you didn’t kill it either! Such a bummer!!!
Hey Ellen B., I left an award for you on my blog and Yes God is such a hands on God and Father. I’m often amazed by how hands on He is!!
I hope your chicken soup turned out divine and you all had a wonderful time :).
Talk to you later…gotta run…we’re headed to the Hat! Yum!
Looks great! I don’t think you killed it, I think you saved it! Can’t wait to try them when they grow.
Good job. I’ll bet it will look much better when it blooms, and especially when it has pears one it.
I wish you could come to my house and prune my trees. I’m still working on my little project and I’m still not sure it will be ready to post.
You’re a bigger woman than I. I would’ve added that project to the “honey do” list!
Hi Ellen…pruning is scary sometimes, isn’t it? I bet it will fine and blooming soon! Susan
I bet it will be gorgeous in a month or so! They always seem to look worse before they look better! A job well done, Ellen!

Good job. I’m told that pear trees are among the weakest and that pruning really strengthens them. Good preventative medicine!
Bet I comes back beautifully!

I hope you’ll post a picture of it this spring or summer. Good job pruning!
well I know nothing about pear trees. but I prune my crepe myrtle carefully…and with them the straight up branches are the ones you leave. and you prune off all the ones that go crossways…
🙂
I always feel my plants are so happy when they are trimmed and pruned. You can almost see them take a deep breath and smile. Maryrose
Oh, how I love home grown pears! I’d like one, please, when they get ripe!
Be a sweetie,
Shelia 🙂
For a non-gardener, you sure are brave in pruning that pear tree, hahaha. I would be so scared to even get started. Great job!
Now that’s a lot of work.Bless your heart.I do hope it turns out beautifully for you…ann
Lovely choice for today’s Met Monday! Sorry for the late visit; too many errands…

You are brave, but your pear tree looks lovely with its new haircut! My brother has pear trees; are pears the fruit you need to harvest before they are ripe?
Good luck! the NW is good pear country, that’s for sure.
