S is for Santa Barbara, California.
Some people call Santa Barbara “The American Riviera”. This beautiful city on the Pacific Ocean has so much style and charm. Along State St. you have many eating and shopping options. You get a very international feel when you catch several different languages being spoken. Santa Barbara is about 300 miles South of San Francisco and 90 miles North of Los Angeles. Just 40 miles North from my home.
State Street and the whole downtown area is very pedestrian friendly. There are many wonderful open air arcades for shopping and people watching.
Here are just a few of the Arcades.
Some of the Arcades have Sculptures to enjoy.
The Santa Barbara Art Museum is also located on State Street and of course you can view some great old relics and Statues or a Monet.
You’ll also find the Mission Santa Barbara up against the mountains. Some call this mission the “Queen” of the California historic Missions.
If you ever travel to California make sure and put Santa Barbara on your “must see” list but be aware that it can be very pricey to stay here.
S is also for
Seagulls at the Seashore
Sand at the Seashore
Shells from this same Seashore.
Now back to my hometown. Horses and ranches have great histiorical significance in Camarillo. Camarillo is named after Adolfo Camarillo. He was a rancher and is known for his famous White Horse which now is called the Camarillo White Horse. You’ll see these famous horses ridden in the Rose Parade. These are some of the Silver saddles from the Camarillo Ranch House Estate…
S is for a Silver Saddles
And S is for Spinning Wheel.
The Silver Saddles and the Spinning wheel are in the Historic Camarillo Ranch House.

Photobucket is holding all my photos from 2007-2015 hostage and they have blacked them all out. I’m slowly working at restoring my posts without their help. Such a tiresome bother!
Hi Ellen, interesting post here and full of variety. Must say that Santa Barbara looks like an affluent place, unlike the lifestyle I have shown this week.
I have been to Californis a couple of times, but it seems that I have missed out on some of the best parts! (though I still sometimes wear T-shirts marked Palm Springs and San Francisco)
This is really a beautiful post:) So many nice pictures. Love it!
Spesially the one with the seagulls. Looks like they are in love!
Thanks for sharing:)

Santa Barbara is one of “Louis’s” favorite places in California!
Having never been to Santa Barbara I now know I could live there….. for a time!! It is charming and so full of “S” attributes!! Your tour was nice!!
Now that was a wonderful tour!
I’ll have to put Santa Barbara on my list for the next visit to California. I really like the Sand at the Seashor pic with the sand and flowers.

Now I know why my son wants to go to Santa Barbara for his doctorate degree! It’s lovely. What strikes me most is the sand dunes and your photo of shells. That photo is worthy of hanging on a wall.
Love the copper music sculpture fountain in SB!
Ellen, you have hit my memory button again. In 1966-67 when some of my children were little, we lived in Thousand Oaks and I took a brownie troop to Santa Barbara to see the mission. One little girl thought the town was named after her–Barbara. 🙂 Beautiful Mission, town and area. Thanks
Thanks for the tour and all the nice photos. Happy shooting!
Wow, you are full of “S” or shoud I say “S’s” LOL
These are great “S” photo’s. As I scrolled down I thought that was the best then scrolling down a little further I found more I liked best to the point that I realized I liked them all so I can’t pick a favorite. Great “S” post.
What a lot of wonderful S things! I wish I had visited Santa Barbara when I lived in Los Angeles or granada Hills. Thanks for the “tour” and I shall keep it in mind should I ever get to CA again! Each of the additions S items were neat to see and read about!
Come and see mine. I was late posting it last night.
S is for surf as well! some very nice “S”s…love the Santa Barbara shots….it is a lovely city with a GREAT view of the Pacific Ocean!
My S is here
And here
You have so many beautiful shots – the shells are incredible, beautifully photographed – but the thing that fascinates me is that spinning-wheel. I can see no treadle, so it must have been spun by hadn. Hard to keep a steady rhythm that way, it must have taked a lot of practice.
