Fun Monday ~ Music

The Crown Princess at Ohh a shiny pen is hosting Fun Monday this week.
Ok, here is the assignment.
Music plays a vital role in most of our lives. It is everywhere. I want to hear the ONE song that is you. The song that whenever it is heard, you smile. I am not looking for the soundtrack of your life, just that one song. Your friends hear it and think of you. You can post the video, the lyrics, the wav file. However you want to post it is great.
~
I was on the phone reading the assignment to my sister Lana G! and she suggested that You’ve Got a Friend by Carole King should be the one I post.  Carole King is a favorite of mine for sure and I love this song.  My husband was listening to my conversation with Lana and he said I should post Smack Water Jack, he’s so funny, he says really it’s only because we were talking about Carole King songs that this one popped into his head, so don’t call the authorities just yet!

You’ve Got A Friend
   ——Carole King

When you’re down and troubled
And you need some loving care
And nothin’, nnothin’ is goin’ right
Close your eyes and think of me
And soon I will be there
To brighten up even your darkest night

You just call out my name
And you know wherever I am
I’ll come runnin’ to see you again
Winter, spring, summer or fall
All you have to do is call
And I’ll be there
You’ve got a friend

If the sky above you
Grows dark and full of clouds
And that old north wind begins to blow
Keep your head together
And call my name out loud
Soon you’ll hear me knockin’ at your door

You just call out my name
And you know wherever I am
I’ll come runnin’, runnin, yeah, yeah,
to see you again
Winter, spring, summer or fall
All you have to do is call
And I’ll be there, yes I will

Now ain’t it good to know
that you’ve got a friend
When people can be so cold
They’ll hurt you, yes, and desert you
And take your soul if you let them
Oh, but don’t you let them.

You just call out my name
And you know wherever I am
I’ll come runnin, runnin’, yeah, yeah, yeah
to see you again
Winter, spring, summer or fall
All you have to do is call
And I’ll be there, yes I will
You’ve got a friend,
you’ve got a friend,
ain’t it good to know,
you’ve got a friend,
ain’t it good to know,
ain’t it good to know,
ain’t it good to know,
you’ve got a friend,
oh yeah now, you’ve got a friend,
yeah baby, you’ve got a friend,
oh yeah, you’ve got a friend.

  1. I think this is going to be a great FM for getting more insight into how people see themselves. I love this song!

  2. My mom taught me a little about appreciating good music. One of her favorite things to do was pull out her old record collection. Seeing that cover brings back memories.

  3. Hey, great choice for a fun monday song. V cool that all of the FM songs I’ve visited so far have been really positive 🙂
Has reminded me that there is some great music out there – think I might be paying a visit to iTunes later!

  4. You picked a great song! You hubby is funny, I looked up smack water jack. Funny!
My momma has improved a lot. I’ll be off and on over the next week. We just got to take one day at a time. Thank you for being there for me!

  5. A great song from what is possibly the best album ever. I think I wore that album out when it first came out.

Thanks for the reminder and how lovely that you and sister have this.

  6. Agreed ellenb–what would we do without our friends? Love the music of the artists who’ve been around long enough to understand some of the deeper things.

  7. I listened to this album til the grooves wore out. Yep, I’m THAT old!

Great choice, a few of Carole King’s crossed my mind (I was definitely thinkin’ older songs…).

    Great choice :).

  8. I have this album but can’t play it anymore. We gave Tim B our turntable. Oh, but I think I have James Taylor on a Cd singing this.

Perfect song for you! I’m so glad you and my sister are friends and now she is sharing you with me.

  9. Great choice of songs! It tells me a lot about you. And I used to own this album back in 1971 or 72, knew every song by heart and sang along with gusto every chance I got.
