Washington Floods!

Oh my, oh my. I’ve been working all day with water problems. We do not have it as bad as our friends the Terreson’s. Here’s a picture of the water on their street today coming into their basement! We were there with you in 1996 filling sand bags and putting them at your garage doors. We’re hoping for the best for you dear Terreson’s!

I’ve been working on our basement too. After shop-vacuming up over 16 gallons of water I decided to just pull up the carpeting and padding because there was no way I’d be able to dry that carpet and padding without the tell tale mildew smell lingering forever. So here’s a photo of where carpeting used to be. You can still see the wet cement. Dan came home early from work to help me and Katie helped when she came home from school. I will not be driving anywhere for the next day or two as so many roads are flooded and closed. Dear is feeling bad being in California where it’s sunny and warm and not being here to help us…

The last time we had flooding this bad we were declared a disastor area. We lost our home because the damage from the flooding. A landslide behind our home compromised our foundation and the fix was going to be so costly that we’d never be able to afford it. (100’s of thousands of dollars) We gave our dream home back to the bank! We do not live on a slope this time around and we are happy about that. We will probably replace our carpeting in the basement with ceramic tile.

This is the slope in the back of the home we gave back to the bank in 1996!

This is from todays storms…

Keep us in your prayers bloggy friends. Counting it all joy….

Photobucket has blacked out all my photos I was storing on their site and they are holding them hostage. I am working on updating my more than 4000 posts.

  1. When I saw the evening news report of flooding in Seattle I immediately thought of you as well as friends who live on Bainbridge Island. I pray that you and your home remain safe, and am confident that the Lord will supply you with all you need to continue to “count it all joy.” Please keep us updated, Ellen, and we’ll keep praying for you.

Seems like the ceramic tile in the basement is a good idea!

  2. Hi Ellen: Well, I guess water is better than fire. . .at least everybody in your family is SAFE and God is still on the throne. Sorry for all you are going through. I, too, will say prayers for you all. Love to you, Ellen.

  3. Yikers! It was a mess yesterday early in the AM leaving for my flight! I could only imagine how progressively worse it got during the day!

  4. Thank you everyone for your kind thoughts and prayers. Things have settled a bit today. Our basement doesn’t have any new water. Others in Washington have a lot of clean-up ahead. I appreciate all your comments..
God is good, all the time
all the time, God is good

  5. I didn’t connect with any news Monday and was picturing you all still in that snowy wonderland of Saturday. Wow. Ellen I had forgotten the saga of your home and that failing slope in 96. You were on quite a journey back then. I’m glad you had some help with the basement mess yesterday. Jeanie and Jim are in Hawaii now. I guess someone has to do it.

  6. Our basement is on it’s way to looking like yours, my parents are in the process of taking up the carpet and pad. All the water has gone down (thank goodness!) but there definitely is a LOT of clean up to be done. We appreciate the thoughts and prayers, and we’ll keep you guys in ours too! I hope your clean up goes smoothly! I’ve seen the sun out today and that is promising!

  7. Goodness! I knew there was flooding up there. But, it is so much more real when you “know” people who are in the midst of it. I pray that you don’t have additional damage.

  8. Hi,
Prayers are with you and all the others that are going through
all the rains and flooding. We had good rain fall of close to
    4″ from that storm.
Should go see Jim and Jeannie in Hawaii.
    Vera
