Before the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles Dear was chosen by his company to run a leg of the Torch Relay. This was a fun event for our family to experience. He ran his leg of the relay in Ontario, California. We were all there to cheer him on. His company representatives were there too with one of their Cal-Mat Cement trucks on the sidelines. Fun times…
Oh and no we didn’t get to keep the torch. The company has it on display somewhere but they did pay for the photo!

That is for sure a day to remember! When the Olympics in 1984 took place, I was a 12 year old girl and was spending my summer vacation at a tent camp…. Oh my, time flies, doesn’t it!

What a wonderful experience for him and the whole family! I’m sure that’s something he’ll never forget:-) xo
What a great picture and a wonderful memory.
You know, I don’t think I knew he did that! Fun picture!
How exciting! My husband’s uncle ran the Olympic torch through Phoenix, Arizona. He was a former Olympic athlete who had been on the bicycle team during the Japan Olympics (in the 1960’s). I have pictures of both my boys holding Uncle Mike’s Olympic torch. They felt quite honored to be able to do so.
Enjoying your blog, as usual!
