The Home At Peace

This post is all about this old house, the home that we have treasured memories in.

The Home At Peace

Here is a little world where children play
And just a few red roses greet [September];
Above it smiles God’s stretch of [autumn] sky;
Here laughter rings to mark the close of day;

There is no greater splendor far away.
Here slumber comes with all her dream supply,
And friendship visits as the days go by;
Here love and faith keep bitterness at bay.

Should up this walk come wealth or smiling fame,
Some little treasures might be added here,
But life itself would still remain the same;
Love is not sweeter in a larger sphere.

This little world of ours wherein we live
Holds now the richest joys which life can give.

  1. I hit send too soon. Wanted to tell you that I especially enjoyed the before and afters … The changes/additions added to the perfection! And as a veteran of several remodeling projects , I know something about the work and trauma that they entail!

  2. These are wonderful pictures of your home, and family! I feel like I’ve been there and know the kids! You have a rich life and it’s so nice to see and know a bit of it!! Blessings!!

  3. What a great ‘home tour’! It’s all those treasured memories that make it so much more than just a house! May you enjoy many more good times, good meals, good chats and good friendships inside those ‘four walls’!

  4. What a lovely home. When I compare new homes like yours to our old 110 year old farmhouse I so wish we could move. It is continual upkeep and the old we get the older it gets and the more repairs are necessary$$$. Your privacy fence turned out so well. I really like the openness between the kitchen and the family room. We have NO openness….just lots of little rooms. But I still love it and it has lots of personality.

  5. Wonderful pictures from your home and family in summer and at X-mas. The poem from Edgar A. Guest fits perfectly. A beloved family is always a treasure.

  6. wonderfull…… and how spacious…. i almost am jealous now 😉

    Have a nice ABC-Wednes-day / – week

  7. You have made this “old house” into a beautiful “home”!!!! Love all the love and details that you have put into this place called home! Richest joys are held there indeed. Sometimes I wish we could build a new house but it just wouldn’t be the same – our old farm house needs constant sprucing up but it’s home to us!

  8. Can see a beautiful house with many significant memories! And you built on and on to it – I like that!
    Don’t know if you are are of it Ellen, I started a new Linky/challenge called Seasons.

    The link is open every Mon-Wed. (Pacific Time) -this week it’s in the post SEASONS – curious about March. This is Tue. so there is still time to link (you have to go to my blog for that – no perma links in comment for WordPressers:) ) Have a beautiful week!

  9. Ellen, you have a beautiful home and a wonderful family to treasure within those lovely walls!
    It is so good to see you all around the table! That is heart and love in one place!

  10. That was a great tour, Ellen! The transformation of your backyard with patio covers and privacy fence is so nice! Of course, it’s the people that make the home and your family is certainly a beautiful one!

  11. Houses are truly transformed by the memories we make in them. I’m so glad you shared this with Thoughts of Home on Thursday. This is the kind of sweetness we were hoping for. 🙂
