I Could Not Do Without Thee

I could not do without Thee
O Savior of the lost,
Whose precious blood redeemed me
At such tremendous cost.
Thy righteousness, Thy pardon
Thy precious blood, must be
My only hope and comfort,
My glory and my plea.

I could not do without Thee,
I cannot stand alone,
I have no strength or goodness,
No wisdom of my own;
But Thou, belovèd Savior,
Art all in all to me,
And weakness will be power
If leaning hard on Thee.

I could not do without Thee,
For, oh, the way is long,
And I am often weary,
And sigh replaces song:
How could I do without Thee?
I do not know the way;
Thou knowest, and Thou leadest,
And wilt not let me stray.

I could not do without Thee,
O Jesus, Savior dear;
E’en when my eyes are holden,
I know that Thou art near.
How dreary and how lonely
This changeful life would be,
Without the sweet communion,
The secret rest with Thee!

I could not do without Thee;
No other friend can read
The spirit’s strange deep longings,
Interpreting its need;
No human heart could enter
Each dim recess of mine,
And soothe, and hush, and calm it,
O blessèd Lord, but Thine.

I could not do without Thee,
For years are fleeting fast,
And soon in solemn oneness
The river must be passed;
But Thou wilt never leave me,
And though the waves roll high,
I know Thou wilt be near me,
And whisper, It is I.

Words: Frances R. Havergal, May 7, 1873.

Growing Dearer Each Day ~ Hymn

P1030469

Growing Dearer Each Day

How sweet is the love of my Savior!
’Tis boundless and deep as the sea;
And best of it all, it is daily
Growing sweeter and sweeter to me.

Refrain

Sweeter and sweeter to me,
Dearer and dearer each day;
Oh, wonderful love of my Savior,
Growing dearer each step of my way!

I know He is ever beside me!
Eternity only will prove
The height and the depth of His mercy,
And the breadth of His infinite love.

Refrain

Wherever He leads I will follow,
Thru sorrow, or shadow or sun;
And though I be tried in the furnace,
I can say, “Lord, Thy will be it done.”

Refrain

Some day face to face I shall see Him,
And oh, what a joy it will be
To know that His love, now so precious,
Will forever grow sweeter to me!

Refrain

Words: Charles H. Gabriel, 1907.

Hallelujah! What a Savior ~ Hymn

IMGP9490

Hallelujah! What a Savior

Man of Sorrows! what a name
For the Son of God, who came
Ruined sinners to reclaim.
Hallelujah! What a Savior!

Bearing shame and scoffing rude,
In my place condemned He stood;
Sealed my pardon with His blood.
Hallelujah! What a Savior!

Guilty, vile, and helpless we;
Spotless Lamb of God was He;
Full atonement! can it be?
Hallelujah! What a Savior!

Lifted up was He to die;
It is finished! was His cry;
Now in Heav’n exalted high.
Hallelujah! What a Savior!

When He comes, our glorious king,
All His ransomed home to bring,
Then anew His song we’ll sing:
Hallelujah! What a Savior!

Words and Music: Philip P. Bliss, 1875.

What a Savior! ~ Hymn

What a Savior!

What a Savior Jesus is!
He is mine, and I am His;
He the price of sin has paid,
And for me atonement made.

Refrain

What a Savior, what a Savior,
What a Savior Jesus is!
I will praise Him, ever praise Him,
He is mine, and I am His!

What a Savior! praise His name,
That to earth for me He came;
Not the least, but all He gave,
My immortal soul to save.

Refrain

What a Savior! all the way
Walking with me, day by day,
Guiding by His holy will,
Guarding me from ev’ry ill.

Refrain

What a Savior! and I know
When to that bright world I go,
Saved by His redeeming grace,
I shall see Him face to face.

Refrain

What a Savior! how He loves,
Ev’ry hour His mercy proves;
Listen, for He speaks to thee:
Take thy cross, and follow Me!

Refrain

Why Do the Holy Angels Sing? ~ Hymn

Why Do the Holy Angels Sing?

Why do the holy angels sing?
Why do the heav’nly arches ring
With anthems sweet from seraphs bright,
With glitt’ring crowns and robes of white?

Refrain

They sing of the Lamb that was slain,
The Savior that lives again,
The Root and the Offspring of David,
The bright and Morning Star!

Glory to Thee, our God, they cry,
Maker of earth, and sea, and sky,
To Thee our highest strains belong,
Thou great Inspirer of our song.

Refrain

Beautiful world where all is bright,
Rivers of gold and fields of light,
In murmured tones of joy prolong
The echo of the angels’ song.

Refrain

Well may the holy angels sing,
Well may the heav’nly arches ring,
With anthems sweet from choirs above,
They sing of God, and God is love.

Refrain
