Time for Joyce’s questions for the last October Hodgepodge of the this year.
1. Are you a risk taker? To what degree?
I will take risks in the kitchen by trying new recipes or throwing things together in desperation for a meal.
2. What’s your favorite candy? Would you say you have a sweet tooth?

I have sweet and sour favorites. See’s Almond Royal is a favorite. I gravitate to dark chocolates from Sees. I enjoy Mike and Ike’s Original Fruits. I do have a sweet tooth. My favorite kind of sweet is in pastry form and not overly sweet.
3. Somewhere you’ve been recently that had you feeling ‘like a kid in a candy store’?
The new brand from Homegoods/TJMaxx/Marshall’s has been fun to explore. Sierra is the name of the store and it is a more outdoorsy themed store.
4. What do you think is the most effective way to make a positive change in the world?
On my knees in prayer and keeping close in obedience to the Savior of the World, Jesus Christ my LORD.
5. Do you like surprises?
Yes, but not in me being the center of attention as in surprise parties. I love a surprise visit from loved ones! I love a surprise sighting in the stores in town when I happen to run into our grands with their mom.
6. Insert your own random thought here.
Speaking of sweet surprises, It was a surprise when Uncle Joshie and Auntie Lolo pivoted their plans for the weekend and drove to our side of the mountains after they heard our weekend company had their flights canceled. We were able to continue our Family Fall tradition of mastering the corn maze!

I have not heard of the store Sierra. There are definitely stores where I feel like a kid in a candy store! I’m sure that your risks in the kitchen turn out amazing :). I take some risks in the kitchen and I’ve been pleasantly surprised a time or two. Your answer to number four is spot on and how kind of your family members who changed their plans to come and see you! Have a great day!
…adieu, a word I never use.
The corn maze with the family is a fun time! October flew by! Take care, have a great day!
I haven’t seen Sierra, but maybe it just hasn’t made it’s way to our side of the country yet. I live in an area that attracts outdoorsy people with so much to do in the way of hiking-biking-water sports, etc. The family corn maze looks like a good time. Hope your guests are able to reschedule. We have flights booked in December and I hope the shutdown is well behind us by then. Have a great day!
Yes, to dark chocolate – I’m a member of that club!
I like taking risks in the kitchen too, it’s always fun to try a new recipe. What great sounding stores, I love TKMaxx, I can spend hours in them, just browsing. How great that your Uncle Joshie and Auntie Lolo stopped off for a visit, the corn maze sounds like fun.
I love reading about your family, I love how Uncle Joshie and Auntie Lolo came on over.
Fun photo!
I was not aware Homegoods/TJMaxx/Marshall’s has a new store! Sounds intriguing!
Running into family while out shopping is something that’s happened to me only once in my entire life. It was truly special. Of course, living in the same community with family would help that to happen more often!!! (smile)
Look at all the coats and hats at the corn maze!!
It was curious to hear the names of those sweets non-of which we have this side of the pond ! B x
I wonder if we will get a Sierra – sounds like a great store!! Your corn maze picture made me shiver!! It looks like a chilly day!
My favorite candy is peppermint patties.
I like taking risks in the kitchen too!!! Trying new recipes is always an adventure.
I lean towards savory over sweet. However, in the past couple of years, I have developed a taste for gummy candies (like Nerd Gummies, Albanese Gummis, peach rings). What in the world? I didn’t see that coming!
YES to answer #4!
Good for you trying new recipes in the kitchen. Mark’s been doing all the cooking this year. I am definitely a fan of See’s dark chocolates. I haven’t heard of that store. Your random thought is so sweet. How nice of them.
Now that does sound like a fun surprise! And a corn maze just sounds like fun. I tried to find one near me for this fall…but all of them seem to have gone out of business. Isn’t that sad?? Happy Hodge Podge!
I will have to keep an eye out for the new Sierra. I wasn’t aware they had added a new store, but it sounds interesting. It appears we were thinking alike again for the answer to #4.
I agree with how you explained the kind of surprise you like. I’m not a fan of being surprised with a spotlight of any kind on me – if I’m going to be the center of attention, I need to prepare myself! LOL Hope you’re having a great week!
