This and That

We have had some rainfall that gave me a break from watering.

The little toddler quail are hard to see but are so much fun to watch. We are inundated with quail, babies, toddlers, and teens. They grow fast.

If they didn’t blend in so nicely with their environment they’d be easier for predators like this next one who flew in on Monday.

Today is mowing day. What’s up where you live?

  1. That is so neat how the quail blend in. I wonder do they know to stay in “neutral” colored areas so they are camouflaged? Great pictures! We’ve had overall a rainier than usual summer (I think?) but August has been pretty dry and I’ve had to do more watering than I’ve had to all summer. That’s ok- it’s the season to harvest the veggies so I certainly don’t mind spending time in the garden caring for my plants. Have a great day!

  2. God knew what he was doing when he assigned colors to the quail, didn’t he? They blend in so well! The hawk is majestic (to me). I always love seeing them glide on the wind currents.

  3. You live in such a lovely area Ellen. Those baby quail are darling and I’m glad they have excellent camouflage. I have only ever seen quail a couple of times, once when visiting friends in Washington State and the other time in the Sonora Desert several years later. They are very easy to fall in love with, I hope I see them again one day and thank you for sharing yours.

I read all comments and appreciate them.
