Memorial Day 2025

Blades of grass and pure white stones
Shelter those who’ve come and gone.
Just below the emerald sod
Are those who reached the arms of God.
Buried here with dignity
Endless rows for all to see,
Freedom’s seeds in sorrow sown,
‘Neath blades of grass and pure white stones.
Blades of grass and pure white stones
Cover those who left their homes
To rest in fields here, side by side,
Lest we forget their sacrifice.
Buried here with dignity
Endless rows for all to see,
Freedom’s seeds in sorrow sown,
‘Neath blades of grass and pure white stones.

  1. What a touching post, Ellen. I especially appreciated seeing the Vietnam Memorial in California picture. I lost someone very dear to me in that war.

  2. The memorials are so well done that for a moment, the statues appear to be real people. I know they represent real people, but I’m talking about the statues themselves – for just a brief second appear to be real – especially those in the Korean memorial.

  3. This is a beautiful post, Ellen. The poem at the beginning reaches into my heart.

The statuary and memorials are beautiful, too. Thank you for helping to make my personal observance of this day more special.

  4. A wonderful post to honor all the men and women of our Armed Forces who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom on this Memorial Day!

I read all comments and appreciate them.
