Before the Throne of God Above ~ Hymn

Before the Throne of God Above

Before the throne of God above
I have a strong and perfect plea.
A great high priest whose name is Love
Who ever lives and pleads for me.
My name is graven on His hands,
My name is written on His heart.
I know that while in Heaven He stands
No tongue can bid me thence depart.

When Satan tempts me to despair
And tells me of the guilt within,
Upward I look and see Him there
Who made an end of all my sin.
Because the sinless Savior died
My sinful soul is counted free.
For God the just is satisfied
To look on Him and pardon me.

Behold Him there the risen Lamb,
My perfect spotless righteousness,
The great unchangeable I AM,
The King of glory and of grace,
One in Himself I cannot die.
My soul is purchased by His blood,
My life is hid with Christ on high,
With Christ my Savior and my God!

  1. Do you know what church that is in the photo? I’m pretty sure it’s Holy Trinity Orthodox Cathedral in San Francisco…

“Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever, Amen.” — I think that must have been one of the benedictions that the Presbyterian minister of my youth used to use, because reading it took me right back where I was standing in the pews at the end of a Sunday service. ❤

    • Yes, this church is in San Francisco. You are probably right. I took the photo in 2008. My husband was in San Francisco for a conference and I spent my time sight seeing around the town. I love that benediction.

  2. It’s the cathedral church for our diocese which includes at least 20 parishes in several western states, and I took similar photos a long time ago when I was there. As I recall, it was hard to get a full view of it.
But you got the same purple flowered clematis in your picture that I think makes that scene extra photogenic. ❤️
