On Thursdays my posts will include verses that stood out in my readings from the Bible during the week. One, two, three or maybe more. 1 Chronicles 16:23-34
Sing to the LORD, all the earth! Tell of his salvation from day to day. Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous works among all the peoples! For great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised, and he is to be feared above all gods. For all the gods of the peoples are worthless idols, but the LORD made the heavens. Splendor and majesty are before him; strength and joy are in his place. Ascribe to the LORD, O families of the peoples, ascribe to the LORD glory and strength! Ascribe to the LORD the glory due his name; bring an offering and come before him! Worship the LORD in the splendor of holiness; tremble before him, all the earth; yes, the world is established; it shall never be moved. Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice, and let them say among the nations, “The LORD reigns!” Let the sea roar, and all that fills it; let the field exult, and everything in it! Then shall the trees of the forest sing for joy before the LORD, for he comes to judge the earth. Oh give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; for his steadfast love endures forever!

For as we share abundantly in Christ’s sufferings, so through Christ we share abundantly in comfort too. If we are afflicted, it is for your comfort and salvation; and if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which you experience when you patiently endure the same sufferings that we suffer.”

How wonderful to read these powerful joyful, strong Chronicles verses this morning. I am finding in my new life in Maryland that I have more thinking time. I picked up a dish towel in a little shop in Poulsbo when I was visiting in September. In amateur fashion, I stitched it onto a dowel and hung above my bed. It has an E. E. Cummings quote that says: I thank you God for this most amazing day, for the leaping greenly spirits of trees, for the blue dream of sky, and for everything which is natural, which is infinite, which is yes.
The Chronicals verses punch power into this bit of poetry. And my morning thinking.

Such a beautiful choice of scripture. I especially like the line that says, “Let the sea roar,” as I am sitting in front of the window watching and hearing the ocean’s roar and loving that God let me be here and witness all this again.
I can imagine you sitting and enjoying the sea roar! What a great place to be…
