Faith

Well, here we are at the very last day of August and the last day of our challenge. Our word today is Faith. There are many verses to choose from on Faith/Faithful/Faithfulness. Thank you to everyone who followed this journey and posted verses. It was really hard to choose just one passage on faith, let alone one verse.

Hebrews 10:35 – 11:3 (ESV)

Therefore do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward. For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God you may receive what is promised. For,

“Yet a little while, and the coming one will come and will not delay; but my righteous one shall live by faith, and if he shrinks back, my soul has no pleasure in him.”

But we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who have faith and preserve their souls. Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. For by it the people of old received their commendation. By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible.

From Paul:

Hebrews 11:4: By faith Abel offered to God a more acceptable sacrifice than Cain, through which he was commended as righteous, God commending him by accepting his gifts. And through his faith though he died, he still speaks.

From Maristella:

“If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.
1 Corinthians 13:2 | NIV

From my sister Vera:

“in addition to all, taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.”
‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭6:16‬ ‭NASB‬‬

From Happy One:

Romans 12:3 KJV

For I say, through the grace given unto me,
to every man that is among you,
not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think;
but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of FAITH.

If you have a passage or a verse to share on Faith leave a comment and I’ll add it here.

  1. I know it’s right next door to your verse. But Hebrews 11:4, because I read about Cain and Abel last night, and this is a cross reference: ‘By faith Abel brought God a better offering than Cain did. By faith he was commended as righteous, when God spoke well of his offering. And by faith Abel still speaks, even though he is dead’. This story has always confused me a little, why did God reject Cains, it seems unfair. But one of the commentators, pointed to God’s grace. It might not seem fair but we can choose to respond with faith and obedience, or jealousy and envy. I’m still thinking about it. Are you doing this verse-a-day for September? I’m really enjoying it!

    • Hello Paul,
Thanks for adding this next verses in Hebrews.
Here’s a little more to think about from MacArthur’s Commentary on Hebrews pg. 299
“When Abel did what God said, he revealed his obedience and acknowledged his sinfulness. Cain, on the other hand, was disobedient and did not acknowledge his sin. Abel offered to God a better sacrifice than Cain because God had prescribed a blood sacrifice. Somehow Abel, and Cain as well, knew what God wanted. The difference between the two was that Abel gave what God wanted, whereas Cain gave what he himself wanted. Abel was obedient and Cain was disobedient. Abel acknowledged his sin. Cain did not. Cain decided to worship in his own way.”
My words: Reminds me of that song “I did it my way”. 🙂

I’m considering a new challenge for the month of October. Glad to meet you through the August challenge. From Spurgeon: “Feed on the word today, and all the days of thy life.”

  2. “If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.
    1 Corinthians 13:2 | NIV (Dailyverses.net).
