Garlic Anyone?

Can you see the stalks in amongst the weeds?

Freshly pulled . I’ll probably pull the rest later this week.

The head of garlic on the left has been sitting for a couple of weeks. The one on the right was just pulled. Not sure if it will change color once it dries.

On our honeymoon in 1974 we drove through Gilroy, the garlic capital of the World (California) and then in 2010 we drove through again our our move back to Washington from California. We enjoyed some very garlicky dishes in one of the Gilroy restaurants.

There is an annual 3 day Garlic Festival in Gilroy each year. Not this year because of COVID but they are planning on the Festival in 2021. It usually begins on the last Friday of July.

Cream of Garlic Soup at the Garlic City Cafe and…

we split the garlic chicken sandwich which was the special of the day. Both items were delicious.

If you have any suggestions for our many bulbs of garlic I’d be interested.

  1. Hello,
I have never tried growing garlic, I am always buying it at the store. The garlic chicken sandwich looks delicious! Take care, stay safe! Have a great day!

  2. As someone with Hungarian heritage, the love of garlic goes deep. LOL. That soup and sandwich looks delicious! I’ve never heard of cream of garlic soup. I’m now going to hunt down a recipe!

  3. Ellen,
There are recipes for baking/roasting garlic cloves that make the garlic mild, but easily smashed onto everything or eaten, after cooling, by just popping into your mouth. Very tasty. I use fresh garlic in my peanut sauce, my guacamole and my stir fry. It can be minced and frozen for soups or other dishes. And of course it can be grated or shredded into butter for a delicious garlic bread or dip for artichokes, bread, whatever, your finger!!
    Enjoy.

  4. That garlicky chicken sandwich is making my mouth water!
Will you hang your garlic to dry? I’m sure you’ll find many uses for your homegrown crop!
