Bungalow Updates

We’ve been on the lookout for a coffee table with no sharp corners. This nifty old Ethan Allen piece became available at a second hand store here in Colville. It has 2 drop leafs and will work perfectly for those over sized jigsaw puzzles. It’s also sturdy enough to put your feet up on. We are pleased with this addition to the living room and how it fills in the room.

We found this sturdy bench with a shelf at a antique/thrift store in Chewelah. It’s sturdy enough for Jaymison’s car seat and for people to sit on to take off or put on their shoes. After we added this bench the wall pieces seemed too small for the space.

We ordered this piece from Hobby Lobby. It arrived in bad shape with glass broken in the frames and all the frames had fallen off the back board. We got our money back and were told not to ship it back. We went to a glass shop and had new glass made to fit. We bought some super duper glue and glued the frame borders back on and voila for about $6 we had a new shelf.

We are pleased and once we have our family photo shoot (a present from our kids to me) in March I’ll order photos to fit the spaces. I did find temporary photos that are working well for now.

Our Master bath is getting a face lift. Dear is busy priming the cabinets and getting the walls ready for paint.

We’ve changed out the vanity lights and are pleased with the new fixtures in appearance and in the light they deliver.

Top photo are the new ones. Bottom photo are the old. Our bathroom is a mess right now with cabinet doors off and priming in the process.

The cabinets will be white and the walls will be grey.

It’s about time for me to remove all our Christmas cards and pack them away. Someone suggested instead of just tucking them away to put them in a notebook and take time in the new year to pray for each family or individual we received cards from. I think that is a very good idea.

This would be a good prayer to pray from Paul in Ephesians:

For this reason, because I have heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love toward all the saints, I do not cease to give thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers, that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of him, having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come. And he put all things under his feet and gave him as head over all things to the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all. Ephesians 1:15-23

Amen.

And for my unbelieving friends I would pray that God would have mercy on them and that He would open their hearts and minds to the truth about who He is and what He has done for them through our Lord Jesus Christ.

It is snowing here in Colville. We are predicted to get 6-8 inches. We are driving to friends later in the afternoon. Hope the roads aren’t too slippery for us!

Happy Friday to you!

  1. Great coffee table, especially with little ones, and for older ones (like me) who bump into sharp corners. Nice new bathroom lights and I look forward to seeing it all finished. Your home is lovely. Have a nice weekend ~ FlowerLady

  2. A fresh look for the new year, this is awesome, everything is so lovely, Ellen, we are making plans for some changes later on, our first change is getting Dh through his surgery, Jan. 22.
Lighting is so important, especially in the bathroom. Your home is so warm and inviting.
Thanks for your visit and for your sweet comment.
    Blessings,
    Sue

  3. Hello,

The coffee table and bench are great finds. I like the cute shelf with the family photo frames. I am glad you were able to fix it with the new glass. Enjoy your day, happy weekend!

  4. I love your new coffee table. Ours is still the one (we call it the workbench) that our daughter used when she was little. Now her littles use it as their work bench. It has drop leafs too and is perfect, even with all the love scratches. Your bathroom reno is going to be beautiful and I love your new shelf and bench. So fun when you find a “find” locally like that. Hugs and safe travels. We are in for a freezing rain Sunday and now are experiencing heavy downpours and potential flooding – snow is all gone – so wierd!

  5. Nice coffee table. Looks great for puzzles. : ) Like the bench too and the shelf underneath sure comes in handy.
Great idea to pray for the people who sent cards. I’m going to do that too.
Your bathroom looks to be a nice big one!!

  6. Ellen, I like your new bench and shelf in your foyer. A good landing spot. I’ve been looking for a similar one for our son’s home. I must show him this one. Maybe he could make one like it. I like the coffee table to be used for puzzles and relaxing. And your bathroom changes sound great. I hope you will reveal the progress.
Lovely idea to use Paul’s prayer to the Ephesians for your friends.

  7. I love your coffee table with it’s rounded edges! Ours has those pointy/dangerous corners and is sitting tucked in the bay window area behind the sofa to keep those precious grands from harm (one day it will be back front and center!). Time moves so quickly!

  8. The changes are beautiful! The new white frame, the coffee table… and I’ve always loved rounded corners on walls. Our bathroom has your old light fixtures. I can’t wait to change them!

  9. Beautiful new home additions, Ellen! I especially like that bench –I’d love to find one for my garage where I store our boots, as I don’t have anything to sit on to put them on. Your bathroom will look beautiful when all the work is done. I still have outdated “yellow oak” cabinets but I am afraid to paint them —I’ll be looking forward to seeing how yours turn out.

  10. You’ve made some great updates! Love your new coffee table which is exactly right for your space . . . and what a great bargain for your Hobby Lobby shelf! A bathroom remodel is good in the long run, although it can drive one a bit crazy during the process. (Or is that just me?!) It will be worth it! (I am telling myself the same thing about an upcoming project . . . )

I really like the idea of praying for the people who sent you Christmas cards. I still have mine in a basket in the living room, so it’s not too late!
