Today is one of 3 days to participate in the Great Backyard Bird Count. I heard about this last year.

I filled this old bird feeder back up along with my two others. Time will tell what I see and count in a 15 minute period. This photo is from May of 2011 and I doubt I’ll see this Evening Grosbeak.
Yesterday afternoon we had some glorious sunshine but today we are cloudy and misting again. This is a long President’s weekend for some of us in the U.S.A. Dear gets Monday off but he is on call so there’s a possibility he’ll have to do some work on Monday but only from home so that will be nice.
Have a great weekend.
I have seen nothing but crows this winter…a huge flock of them live in the trees here. They must chase off all other birds. Hope that you have much better luck.
Vee, We have had lots of little birds, sparrows, chickadees, some Stellar Jays, a spotted woodpecker and of course crows. Crows have not been as plentiful around here ever since I saved one of them and freed it from being stuck in our fence. They are very respectful of our property now. Uncanny…
He is so pretty – never seen one of these before. The Rocky Mountain Buebirds went away for about 6 weeks but now they are back. They are interesting as their lower beak is way longer than their top beak.
Still lots of quail here. And hummingbirds. And house wrens.
Have some time to myself this evening and so much enjoyed reading your blog posts of late and seeing all your fabulous photos! Wow – so much inspiration here! Thanks for blessing us by sharing how God has blessed you!
That’s a wonderful photo. I never heard of this Backyard Bird Count. Sounds like a census for the birds!
The Evening Grossbeaks seem to come a stay for awhile and then disappear. I think they look like old time clerks with visors. We weren’t very faithful this year in keeping the bird feeder full and will have to step up to the plate if we expect to get any feathered visitors.
What a great thing to participate in. See if the numbers are up from the previous year?
