A Golden Moment!

Congratulations to the U.S. Women’s Soccer team and their gold medal in the 2012 Olympics! It was a beautiful thing for me a huge soccer fan to watch. Congratulations, too, to the Canadian Women beating France to earn the bronze medal and to Japan for receiving the silver medal. It’s great to watch the medal ceremony and see the women all lined up with those huge smiles!

Here are some more beautiful things from my yard…

Before I watched the game I mowed the lawn, picked some apples and enjoyed some of the flowers growing in planters about the yard.

I’m trying to get motivated to peel and core these apples off the tree and make some applesauce…

My top hat blueberries are getting big and ripe.  This is a dwarf blueberry that grows well in pots.

My mom is being moved to a rehab center this afternoon. They are calling around to find one that has room. I’m hoping it isn’t too far from my parents apartment since my dad will be driving back and forth. Thank you so much for all your prayers and concern for my mom. It is really appreciated.

  1. Too bad I don’t live next door to you—-I’d help you turn those apples into sauce!

I never thought about growing blueberries in pots. They look great!

Hope your mom continues to recover well. I’m sure this is tough on your dad; may the Lord give him strength.

  2. The Olympics have us hooked, although I missed that game. Your happy yard and flowers bring me joy! Praying for your parents….thankful He knows intimately what they need.

  3. Will be praying that an excellent rehab center will be found that is close to home for your dad’s sake. It’s not easy growing older and having more and more things come down the road. Faith becomes very important at such times.

Your basket of apples is so lovely to me. A terrific photo! Hope that you have an apple peeling gizmo. I’d hate to tackle all of those with a vegetable peeler.

  4. Peel the apples while you watch the olympics……and then sit down to a bowl of warm apple sauce. Praying for you mom. I trust she will settle well and feel comfortable at the rehab centre and I also hope that it is near home making the visits easier on your dad.
Your blueberries are coming along nicely.

  5. My Dad spent some time in a “swing bed” they called it after he had broken his leg. It was such a comfort to us to know he was being cared for in ways I would have found difficult.
Apple peeling….. yes…pull it all in front of the tv. I wish I could borrow you my apple peeler.
    I love all the photos.

  6. Ellen…I bought one of those nifty apple peeler/corers at Lepp Market last year. Now Elmer does all the peeling and cutting…and it is done in no time. We did a box of transparent apples last night…in a snap!

Women’s soccer has been the most exciting thing at the Olympics of 2012!

  7. So glad your mom is recovering nicely – I know our faithful Lord will provide exactly what she and your dear dad need.

Yes – watch the Olympics and peel apples – but no jumping up and down with the knife when someone scores! 🙂

  8. I’ve really been enjoying the Olympics this summer too. Those apples are beautiful. I’m hoping I get to make some applesauce this fall. I love having shelves of preserves for the winter months. I’m jealous of your flowers.

  9. Love those apples! Homemade applesauce is such a treat. My apple tree is not producing too well. I counted 2 apples on it…just 2! I’m told we need to plant another one for pollenation. Blessings to your mother as she recovers.

  10. It’s heartbreaking to see the Canadian team lose to the US in the last min. of overtime. But yes, a bronze is nice too. Have been glued to the TV these past two weeks. Not much time to write or visit blogs. Glad to see you’ve an Olympic post.
