Let Us Break Bread Together ~ African-American Spiritual

Let Us Break Bread Together

Let us break bread together on our knees, (on our knees)
Let us break bread together on our knees. (on our knees)
When I fall on my knees with my face to the rising sun,
O Lord, have mercy on me.

Let us drink wine together on our knees, (on our knees)
Let us drink wine together on our knees. (on our knees)
When I fall on my knees with my face to the rising sun,
O Lord, have mercy on me.

Let us praise God together on our knees, (on our knees)
Let us praise God together on our knees. (on our knees)
When I fall on my knees with my face to the rising sun,
O Lord, have mercy on me.

  1. Another ‘dark ages’ lady here. I remember being in a room full of hippies, all of us singing this song, with someone playing a guitar. Thanks for the memory, Ellen! Have a restful day.

  2. We celebrated communion in church this morning and this song just reinforces that message of cleansing and forgiveness. As the words to a song played during communion said ” I don’t see my brokenness any more when I’m seated at the table beside my Lord.” Remembering His death and resurrection reminds us that we are spotless in God’s sight because of Jesus’s sacrifice.
