Flag Day 2012

Happy Flag Day!

Today I’m sharing all the photos I have from Chicago with an American flag in it!

A quote our daughter posted on Facebook for flag day…”The flag of the United States has not been created by rhetorical sentences in declarations of independence and in bills of rights.  It has been created by the experience of a great people, and nothing is written upon it that has not been written by their life.  It is the embodiment, not of a sentiment, but of a history.”  ~Woodrow Wilson

You’re the emblem of
The land I love.
The home of the free and the brave.
~George M. Cohan

Off with your hat, as the flag goes by!
And let the heart have its say;
you’re man enough for a tear in your eye
that you will not wipe away.
~Henry Cuyler Bunner

I believe our flag is more than just cloth and ink. It is a universally recognized symbol that stands for liberty, and freedom. It is the history of our nation, and it’s marked by the blood of those who died defending it.  ~ John Thune

When we walked past this tavern I said out loud “It comes in Pints”. They need to adjust their flag!!

Today we are flying our U.S. flag and our U.S. Marine flag. I’m also getting my red, white and blue tub out of the attic to start decorating for the 4th of July.

Yesterday afternoon I had the most relaxing 90 minute massage that was long overdue. Sigh… Do you enjoy massages?

  1. Wow, Chicago is a very patriotic place! I’m curious about Pippin’s Tavern – must investigate.

As for a massage, yes please! Haven’t had one for quite some time, but oh are they nice.

You were long overdue, I’m thinkin’ 🙂

    • Susan, I loved the name and the outside look of Pippin’s Tavern but the inside was quite cheesy. Now as I take a 2nd look at their American flag it looks like it’s unhooked on one end. When I saw the name I wanted to say “It comes in pints?”

  2. Happy flag day, Ellen! I have my flag hanging outside on display today!

I liked the Woodrow Wilson quote and I am going to share it on my facebook page today -thanks!

A 90 minute massage sounds heavenly! I don’t indulge in massages often, but when I do I always enjoy the experience!

  3. Funny..I woke up this morning thinking “Flag Day!” You would love seeing my Dad’s house with just about every historical American flag hung from the garage. He waits outside for bypassers walking to the beach and gives impromptu lectures on the flags.

Eccentric, but in a good way.

  4. PS: After working two years for a massage college and getting weekly or more often massages…I am a massage fan, especially the ones with hot rocks included.
But a great facial that includes head, neck, arm and foot massage really is my ultimate bliss.

  5. A flag is truly an emblem of the land we love. All you need is to travel to another country and see your flag. There is something about it. Even a flag that is flown by a country you have lived in… is pretty special.
