Sassy at Sixty!

Well I for one am thrilled that a couple more of our Mennonite Girls are joining me in the Sixties Club! We still have 4 young-uns among us that help keep us in line and in style. Eight of our Ten girls converged on Harrison Hot Springs for Judy and Marg’s party on Monday. You’ve seen photos from some of the other girls and here is my contribution to our wonderful day of laughter and celebration.

Marg and Judy made the cutest place settings for us with our personal apron patterns to lead us to our seats. Sixty jelly beans in a vintage 1952 jar with a photo of Marg and Judy were at our setting also. Here are the party guests…

Time for some gifts…why not it is a birthday party after all. We had to take a break from gifts to order our food.

Lovella decked me out in a fascinator she purchased for me…

The hot pools were calling out to us and if you’d like to see photos from the pools you’ll need to visit Lovella, Judy, Marg, Anneliese or Kathy’s blogs. My camera stayed under cover during this time of our afternoon.

After the pools it was time for cake! Marg made a special gluten free dessert for our dear Julie to enjoy while we had cake.

Of course we sang the Happy Birthday song in harmony for our birthday girls. They got to sing, too, since they were sharing this birthday party.

There is still a mystery afoot as to the maker of this beautiful cake. Time will reveal the truth…

I don’t know when the last time was that I had 2 desserts in one seating but hey…2 birthday girls=2 desserts…right? I knew you’d see it my way.

As the sun started setting it was time to leave the beautiful Harrison Hot Springs Resort and head back to our homes. We give permission and encourage Judy and Marg to keep celebrating this milestone birthday the rest of the year. Happy Birthday girls! I’m so happy that God brought you into my life!

  1. Went and read all the other posts of this fun birthday party! I felt like I was there reading all of them. What a special time for you and your fun friends!

  2. I just want to say how happy I am that you came all that way and it was fun catching up with you in the car to Harrison Hot Springs. You are, like Kathy said our little Russian cousin … thank you for the fruit basket colander.. I’ve already used it.

  3. You are so wonderful to come so far for so many events. There have been many times I have been thankful that we have you in our team.
The fruit basket did not come home with me….but I located it!
    Thank you again.

  4. Ellen…my friend! Thanks for coming all that way just to help us celebrate our ‘coming of age’. It was such a good time!

And from your title…I think that turning sixty is a license to be a little sassy. Right? And forgetful, and somewhat crazy, and comfortable with who we are. It’s all good.

  5. Love your photos Ellen – we really are blessed to be part of this group and to be a participant in Marg and Judy’s celebration. Judy – you’ve said it well. These milestone birthdays can be moaned with self pity or celebrated with joy. I’m thrilled to be given the opportunity to be sixty so I choose, with all of you to celebrate!

  6. It is so good to see senior citzens being active and having fun. The word “spry” keeps coming to mind….

(2 years and three months until I turn 60. Pay back will be a you-know-what then from all you 60+ year olds).

    • Jill, This definitely is a spry group. Don’t forget that 3 of the 8 are quite a bit younger than the 60’s club! Maybe you should plan a 60 party in Seattle and I’ll have the girls come down for it! Course by then I’ll almost be 65…and in a home…who knows….
