FFF ~ Moving Forward…

Oh so much to be thankful for. It’s nice to link up with Susanne at Living to Tell the Story to share our favorite blessings of the past week.

1. With the help of our DIL’s grandmother we were able to book this space for the rehearsal dinner for Katie and Andrew’s wedding. It really is the right place at the right price for our needs. Yippee!

2. After meeting my DIL and her grandmother at the clubhouse we came home just before the new queen mattress set was brought in by Josh and Dear. Laura and I put all the linens on the bed and then we had lunch with my sister Lana andΒ  BIL Steve joining us. The bedroom is still in transition and once it’s complete I’ll post some before and after photos.

3. On Sunday we had a new sermon series start at church and on Tuesday our Women’s Bible Study resumed.

4. I shocked myself by taking the plunge and finally trying on Mother of the Bride dresses. I picked two dresses and 2 pairs of shoes and I’ll have the girls give me their opinions on which if any of the two I should choose.

So…do you think I should keep the dress that goes with the black shoes or the dress that goes with the silver shoes?

5. Thursday night our small group from church joined other volunteers to cook a meal and make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches to take downtown to a location under the interstate where meals are served Monday thru Thursday nights to anyone who shows up there. We made a taco rice dish with salads, bread and dessert to serve along with coffee, hot chocolate, water and tea. The taco rice dish stayed nice and hot for the whole duration of serving. We served at least 150 people and they were very appreciative and pleasant. Several young men looked like they could have been my sons…Β  It was a good time for all of us. The ministry is called The Lord’s Table.

I’m getting a late start this morning. Because we didn’t start serving food till after 8 P.M. last night I got home late and got into bed way later than usual. I was surprised when the phone woke me up at 8:23 A.M. Sheesh! The sun is shining bright with clear skies so we are in for a nice chilly day. Hope you all have a nice weekend.

  1. My toes would never survive those points, but I’d really have to see the dresses to make a decision. Sounds like the wedding plans are coming along very nicely!

What a neat ministry with the food-serving — I’m sure it’s heart-breaking in some ways as well.

  2. Not a clue on the best dress based on the shoes because I no longer put my feet in the pointy toes…OUCH, so that’s making me lean away from them. So excited for you all as the day approaches. If we move to the city I’ve thought about doing that kind of meal serving. We used to take our girls in 4 times a year to a ministry that served meals at their building. I look forward to doing that again. Hubby is tired of driving to the city to want to go back in at this point, but we’re hoping for a change. Happy weekend! PARTAY!!!!

  3. I vote for the silver shoes too as they are so sparkly and FUN looking. Hurray on getting 2 dress/shoe options. Hoping that at least one of them makes the final cut. πŸ˜‰

It will be so rejuevinating and luxurious to have the bedroom all done. I look forward to seeing your photos.

Also hurray on booking the wedding venue. That must be a huge relief!

    Have a good week.

  4. I pick silver shoes..just because I couldn’t imagine wearing the pointy ones:)
Looking forward to seeing the bedroom when it’s finished.

  5. The bedroom looks perfect for me…I’d crash out there any day and sleep in with you till 8:30 am or even later.
Keep both pairs of shoes. Sometimes at our age…we just need more choices…

  6. You are teasing our interest……I kinda think you should go for the silver sparklies! When will you ever be able to do the bling thing again?! The black ones are really pretty too…..I really do need to see the whole shabang before I make my final choice. What does dear think….or does it matter:):):)
Your room is coming along nicely. You have a lot on the go.
I was so touched by how you get together to feed those in need right in your city. I can imagine it was a really neat time for everyone.

  7. I was struck by the diversity of your life right now, from caring for homeless people and finding a a wedding outfit. You speak of it all like it’s so natural … because it’s a way of life for you. I love that about you.

  8. Ellen – I’m sure that the new bedding I’ve bought for our Queen sized bed in the guest room is exactly like yours. I’ll have to take a pic and send it to you – if so, you’d feel right at home here!
I love those silver shoes, but would need to see the dress that goes with each……

  9. Yikes! Mother of the bride dresses, I need to start trying those on soon- so much pressure! I do really like the shoes though. Weddings are SUCH a big job! I feel like we work on it constantly.

  10. The silver shoes look more comfortable to me and that’s the only criteria I have for shoes these days so you can’t go by my opinion.

  11. You truly have a lot on the go these days. What a wonderful thing you and your church family did to serve so many hungry people! I always find I am so blessed when I participate in an act such as that! I am so interested to hear about your wedding plans and shoe choices. You MUST keep both pairs – they are both beautiful and maybe you can switch throughout the day and wear both? I have a special interest in this as I will soon be shopping for an outfit for my daughter’s wedding this coming Fall. She is our only daughter, I’ve never done this before, so I can use all the help I can get!! I will be following your posts with much interest!

    • Rosella, That’s wonderful that your daughter is getting married in the Fall. If I can help in any way I’d love to give any tips that worked for us. Blessings on all the plans…

  12. Weddings are so much fun! I only got to plan one wedding since we only have one daughter, but I had a great time! Glad things are going well for you, so far.

I’m going to assume that you find both pairs of shoes comfy enough to wear all day and on that basis, I choose the black ones. I love the look of the long point and the ‘bling-y’ buckle. Is your dress a short one or ankle length?

Feeding the homeless in the place they ‘live’ sounds like a very fulfilling way to spend a day/evening. Sounds like it is a regular ‘event’, is it?

    • Karen, A different church serves a meal every night from Monday thru Thursday. Usually each church has one night in the month that they cook and serve.

  13. You must be so happy and relieved to have the rehearsal dinner spot picked! It’s so nice to be able to tick off the wedding to do list!

    I love your ministry The Lord’s Table. I bet it’s an eye-opener.

I’m voting for the black although if you can keep them both I’d follow Lovella’s fashion advice πŸ™‚

  14. I loved this post Ellen. I’m so happy for your new mattress…and loved the peek into the bedroom. What a wonderful ministry to serve those that show up. That…is hospitality!

  15. Ooh, I vote for the silver shoes πŸ˜‰ Hope the wedding arrangements go smoothly — congrats on landing the location! The homeless meal program sounds really terrific. A wonderful tangible way to serve with love in Christ’s name.

I read all comments and appreciate them.
