Q is for a Quote by Queen Victoria

“Give my People plenty of Beer, good beer and cheap beer, and you will have no Revolution among them” ~ Queen Victoria

Q is for Quail, the California State Bird ~

Q is for Quilts. The State Quilt with State Flowers and Birds was made by my MIL Verna.

I can’t imagine the work that went into this. This quilt was made sometime before 1959 when Alaska and Hawaii became states. I’m pretty sure my MIL quilted this before she was married, too, in 1945. Verna taught school in a one-room schoolhouse in Kansas during WWII. She truly had the gift of teaching.

Quick, it’s time to join in the quest and find your Q to share with the Queen of the alphabet Jenny at Alphabe-Thursday! Just add you link to the queue quietly.
Amazing quilt. What town in Kansas did she teach in?
Pam, It was in McDonald, Kansas. Western Kansas…
Beautiful! And what patience it would take to make a quilt..
love love the quilt
Such a treasured quilt! Really special!
Oh my, she had the gift of needlework also! So homey 🙂
And I LOVE the Queen’s quote, thanks for sharing it!
A great quotation and the quail weathervane is gorgeous.
What a classic quilt – beautifully done by your MIL – you have a real treasure.
I’m having myself a good chuckle at your first quote….
I loved your quilt…great memory maker.
I’m sitting here and chuckling at your first quote.
Your quilt has definitely been a memory maker.
Gosh…must have been a lot of work put in to make that lovely quilt!
Wonderful quilt…so many details and done before the new abbreviations. Very cool. Have you written about your mil before? Her teaching days during WWII in a one-room schoolhouse must yield lots of fun stories.
What a lovely quilt! The birds are so pretty!
What a pretty quilt! Truly a labour of love.
That quilt is a real treasure! As for the quote…it hardly sounds queenly!
I think poor Queen Victoria didn’t know men enough because there are some who get real violent when they had too much beer, lol !
I love that quote! I think I’ll use it at my next dinner party…
Nice, multi-tasking Q post!
😉
What a treasure you have! The work that went into that and the teaching tool you have at your finger tips. You need to show that to Jack.
What a great Q post. I love love love that quilt!
Wow, when I saw your title on my blogroll, all I could think of was ‘queen and quinoa!’ You have a nice assortment of ‘q’s there. What a pretty quilt, made by a far more patient soul than I am! And that quail weathervane is so quaint…ha! a ‘q’ word…quaint!
So many Q words! I really liked the Queen Victoria quote!
I’m returning with a point of interest about this quilt. I was shopping at Borders for all the deals and I found one in a quilt book costing just $2.99. The title is Warman’s Vintage Quilts and this quilt pattern is found on pages 184 and 188. It appears to be completely similar in the embroidery patterns and the background fabric is pink…a paler pink…but pink. It’s dated 1947 and is valued between $600 and $750. Perhaps I shall feature it at some point next week. I found it truly serendipitous. I see that I’ve missed a few interesting posts so will be back to catch up on my reading.
Wow Vee! How great to have this information. I’ll have to google that book! Thank you….
What a treasured heirloom that quilt is! So very lovely!
What a beautiful quilt. I am just getting ready to start a simple FQ quilt! This treasure certainly puts my idea to shame!
Thanks for a lovely link this week.
