Dwell In Me, O Blessed Spirit
Dwell in me, O blessèd Spirit,
How I need Thy help divine!
In the way of life eternal,
Keep, oh, keep this heart of mine.
Refrain
Dwell in me, oh, dwell in me;
Hear and grant my prayer to Thee;
Spirit, now from Heav’n descending,
Come, oh, come and dwell in me.
Let me feel Thy sacred presence;
Then my faith will ne’er decline;
Comfort Thou and help me onward,
Fill with love this heart of mine.
Refrain
Round the cross where Thou hast led me,
Let my purest feelings twine;
With the blood from sin that cleansed me,
Seal anew this heart of mine.
Refrain
Dwell in me, O blessèd Spirit,
Gracious Teacher, Friend divine,
For the home of bliss that waits me
O prepare this heart of mine.
Refrain
Words: Fanny Crosby (1820-1915)
These words should be my daily prayer! Thank you for this hymn.
What wonderful words, Ellen. I don’t think I’ve ever sung this hymn.
By the way, I didn’t realize how wide this theme is — your image is more than 600 pixels across 🙂
This is a variation on the theme that a bloggy friend customized for me…so it’s wider then the standard theme. :0)
Comfort is given by these words of faith! Yes, dwell in me!
We missed the rain..but just around our place..from what I hear!
Flowers are planted..with more to come.
“Let me feel Thy sacred presence;
Then my faith will ne’er decline;”
I love those lines.
Hope your Sunday has been blessed… are you still visiting churches, or have you found a permanent one?
Fanny Crosby hymns are among my favorites, and I’m glad to add this to my list. “Come, oh, come, and dwell in me.” Amen.
I love Fanny Crosby’s hymns too and this one is wonderful! Thanks for posting it, Ellen.
Lovely hymn Ellen..and what a photo too! just great!
Thanks for popping in on my Psalm too!
I have the privilege of preaching a funeral tomorrow for a 101-year-old saint who died the day after Christmas. This was one of her two favorite hymns, and I found your blog while Googling the hymn’s background.
Other sources say it was not written by Fanny Crosby (see, for example, http://www.hymnary.org/hymn/PsH/427?media=text), but it sounds very Fanny-ish. Just wondering if you had a different source.
Either way, thanks for keeping the hymn before the church. It’s a great one, and it’s too bad its circulation has been limited.

Hi Bob,
Thanks for your comment.
I usually get my hymn info from Cyberhymnal.
101! Wow that’s one long life. Blessings…
#364–my FAVORITE hymn as a child, I haven’t heard about it in YEARS
