Today two of my sisters are meeting me at Montebello High School for a Homecoming BBQ. It’s special this year because our High School is celebrating their 100 year anniversary. Kathy graduated in 1964, Vera graduated in 1966, Fred graduated in 1967, and I graduated in 1968. It wasn’t easy following my older sisters and brother through school because they were a lot more compliant and successful then I was. I’d always hear comments like “you aren’t like your sisters”,or “I thought you’d do better because you are a Bagdanov”. My sister Kathy was G.A.A. president. My sister Vera was Valedictorian of her class, a wiz in mathematics. Back then there were no calculators and you should have seen her work that slide rule…amazing. My brother Fred was ASB president. Our 4 younger brothers and sister graduated from high school in Whittier. Was it Monte Vista Lana?
I’m looking forward to meeting a couple who I’ve met through my blog who graduated in 1951 and 1954. I’m also hoping to see other people I haven’t seen for 41 years.
Have a great Thursday everyone.

That sounds like a great time, Ellen! Enjoy catching up with old classmates and reminiscing! :o) ((HUGS))
Hope it’s grand. I heard the same things because of my older brother…good reminder to watch the spoken words. G.A.A. I’m thinking that is a group I was involved in…I’ve been trying to think of the group name for years and my yearbooks got packed away. Do you know what the initials stand for?
Girls Athletic Association :0)
Sounds like a real fun time. Have a good one 🙂
It sounds like a fun day!!! Enjoy!!!!

That sounds like fun — you family has definitely left quite a legacy in that school.
How fun to go back and meet all those classmates from so long ago! I’m sure nobody has changed in the least. Enjoy!
Fun times! I mean, today. I remember being in the shadow of my older sibling during high school–yeah.
How cool is that! Can’t wait to see what photos you come up with. Do you have old yearbooks?
I always forget how many siblings you have!!
Hi Ellen:
My friend, Dhana Valentine, came down on Friday, 11/6 and we actually went to the homecoming game and then to the party over at the Doubletree afterwards. Don’t know if you had a chance to see the field and track, but it’s no longer a dirt track and I think the field is some kind
of “astroturf”. The Homecoming court did not present itself in cars like
we did in the old days. They just stood by the track and had a ceremony. Not as “regal”. A shame they couldn’t experience what our homecoming court did. Our band was fantastic. The school band now is quite a bit smaller and we couldn’t hear them. And the cheers! Didn’t even recognize one. Not even, “push ’em back, etc”. The cheerleaders were very good though, but couldn’t really hear them either. And they didn’t even sing the school anthem. What a difference 40 years makes! But, even so, it was fun to be on the campus. Hope to see you soon.
