On my way to Orange County many Saturdays ago I stopped at a Target in Norwalk and heard a familiar bird call. There was a farmhouse next door to the Target with several Peacocks. I walked over to the fence to see if I could get a glimpse. I had to zoom in to get these shots so they are not as clear as I wish they were but you can still get an idea of the vibrant colors this fella had!
Peacocks are large, colorful pheasants (typically blue and green) known for their iridescent tails. These tail feathers, or coverts, spread out in a distinctive train that is more than 60 percent of the bird’s total body length and boast colorful “eye” markings of blue, gold, red, and other hues. The large train is used in mating rituals and courtship displays. It can be arched into a magnificent fan that reaches across the bird’s back and touches the ground on either side. Females are believed to choose their mates according to the size, color, and quality of these outrageous feather trains.
The term “peacock” is commonly used to refer to birds of both sexes. Technically, only males are peacocks. Females are peahens, and together, they are called peafowl.

Photobucket is holding all my photos from 2007-2015 hostage and demanding a ransom for me to access them. I’m slowly cleaning up many of my posts where PB have added ugly black and grey boxes where my photos used to be. So frustrating!
Now that is a STUNNING Blue Post
Oh my, I’m the first to visit you, hurray for me.

Hi Ellen, Oh my, what a lovely bird! I think Peacocks are so pretty and you captured the best pictures! Lucky you!
Great post for Blue Monday!
Love, Ann
Great pictures of a beautiful blue–stunning!

Lovely Peacocks….and they were at Target??? Man, you would never find anything like that around here. The only birds in the parking lots are the pesky crackles. Have a great week.
Those are so gorgeous!! We sure don’t have peacocks wandering around here in New England! What a sight to behold!!…Donna
WOW!!! If you are saying that the pictures aren’t as clear as you wanted them then I would love to see that peacock with my own eyes. Such amazing colors. God really knew what he was doing during Creation!
Such a wonderful blue post. When I was a child, our neighbor had peacocks and they were just beautiful..
well that piece of peafowl is perfectly presented!
gorgeous
I have a peacock on film with his tail fanning. Oh, it’s something! You’re right, the colors are amazing. Happy Blue Monday!
Peacocks are such exotically beautiful birds ~ until they make that gruesome honking noise! They do make fantastic “guard dogs”, as I found out on my property I once had in Tasmania. Zanzibar would make a warning honk from the shed roof when a car approached the driveway and would make endless honking sounds every day at sunset till he bedded down in a tall tree!
Peacocks are beautiful specimens. My friend raises them and they certainly have their own personality. The first time that I heard the noise they make I thought a wild animal was lurking. Happy Blue Monday.

Gorgeous, Ellen. This is one of your posts that reminds me of just how different the various parts of our country are. You certainly wouldn’t encounter a farmhouse with peacocks in our neck of the woods!
Your peacock pictures are very nice. Good information, too.
I learned something about peafowl! My mom used to keep peacock feathers in a vase – they were beautiful!
There’s not a whole lot of things prettier than a peacock. Thanks for sharing this one today….
Peacocks are amazing… I just don’t see them here! Neat captures.
He is really pretty! Happy Blue Monday!
Peacocks are some of the most intriguing birds, beautifully colored.
Oh I love peacocks. I told hubby I wanted some and he said the dogs would probably kill them. Bad dogs !
Good morning Ellen B.,
Peacocks in Norwalk? What a riot! They are so gorgeous, aren’t they?
We made it back from AZ last night and will be heading back on Friday for my brothers memorial. My poor mother is just devastated.
Yours prayers are very much appreciated…THANK YOU!

Beautiful! I love peacocks. All around the Arboretum in Arcadia, they wander and at night, during the summer when the philharmonic plays there, the peacocks “sing” along with the symphonies.
Enjoy your day!
What a great opportunity for a Blue Monday post. Thanks for the info about peafowl!
The peacock is so dramatic and elegant at the same time.
I’m always amazed at those birds wherever I see them. We had wild ones in our neighborhood in Oregon~they were escapees from a local farm. It makes me wonder why someone in a suburban Norwalk house would raise them.
Excellent choice for the theme! But in my experience not all “peacocks” are of the avian persuasion… I’ve seen quite a few of the human variety as well.
Alawys great to see!
OOOOO, GREAT SCOTT…I never thought about voting RED not BLUE…HEY…I gotta go correct my post title…thanks for telling me….
What a lovely blue post!
And your Target is much more upscale than mine. 😉
They are beautiful — what good pictures! We had peafowl living next door to us for awhile. They were beautiful too and we enjoyed them — except at dawn when they were so noisy! They used to think that it would be more fun to live in our chicken pen with our chickens than at their home. So they’d fly onto our chicken coop roof, and jump into the coop, causing quite an uproar and ruckus! What wild times!

Beautiful! That was a fun surprise for you. My Aunt raises peafowl in Arizona and she sends us the most beautiful pics. Hope you’re enjoying your Blue Monday. ~ Robyn
Ellen,
Your peacock pictures are great for Blue Monday. They are such beautiful creatures with all of the vibrant colors. Have a great week!
Magnificent birds! But oh so full of themselves (the males, that is). Happy blue Monday.
I had no idea there were peacocks in Norwalk. (Or farmhouses either!) They really are stunning birds. I still remember seeing them as a kid at a zoo.
Hi Ellen, I have always loved the blue colors on a peacock….. I have a picture on my computer of a white Peacock!!! Thanks for sharing with us…
Hugs, Baba
What a beautiful bird! Lovely blues!! My grandmother had a peacock and their cry sounded like a lady to me.
Be a sweetie,
Shelia 🙂
Simply lovely! Somehow I think God spent extra time on detailing the peafowls when he created them… 😉 The colors are just so breath-taking!
I haven’t seen this bird since I retired! We would see the peacocks at a small zoo in Folsom on field trips. You saw them on a stop for Target!
You must have fixed your computer problem. I see your green border is back!
