This World Is Not My Home ~ Hymn

The illustration, above, is from Virginia Lee Burton’s The Little House, the story of a little house that found a home.

Rebecca from Rebecca Writes has a September theme of Home going on at her blog. For the rest of the month on Tuesdays and Fridays she’s featuring posts about the Home on her blog. This is my contribution for today. We sang this song in the 60’s and 70’s. It brings back lots of memories. If you post something about “Home” let her know.

This World Is Not My Home

This world is not my home, I’m just passing through.
My treasures are laid up somewhere beyond the blue.
The angels beckon me from Heaven’s open door
And I can’t feel at home in this world anymore.

Chorus
O Lord you know I have no friend like you
If Heaven’s not my home, then Lord what will I do?
The angels beckon me from Heaven’s open door
And I can’t feel at home in this world anymore.

They’re all expecting me and that’s one thing I know.
My Savior pardoned me and now I onward go.
I know He’ll take me through, though I am weak and poor.

Chorus
O Lord you know I have no friend like you
If Heaven’s not my home, then Lord what will I do?
The angels beckon me from Heaven’s open door
And I can’t feel at home in this world anymore.

Just up in Glory Land we’ll live eternally.
The Saints on every hand are shouting victory.
Their song of sweetest praise drifts back from Heaven’s shore
And I can’t feel at home in this world anymore.

Chorus
O Lord you know I have no friend like you
If Heaven’s not my home, then Lord what will I do?
The angels beckon me from Heaven’s open door
And I can’t feel at home in this world anymore.

  1. Hello Ellen B.,
I’ve never heard this one either but it’s a good reminder. Do you ever wonder what it’s going to be like and what your mansion will look like. I’d like Ruby floors in mine and walls made out of crystal. Planted by a stream of course with jewels along the shore.
    Have a wonderful day today.
    🙂 Cori G.

  2. What great words those are, Ellen!!! Indeed, we have a heavenly home waiting for us — what a comfort that is! 🙂 And one of the benefits is that we get to finally see the bloggers we might not meet down here on earth!

  3. I know that pic you have at the top from one of my favorite picture books as a child, but of course now I’m blanking on the title… The Little House? Such a good enduring book!

Abbey, Yes, you are right, and I decided to add the credit to the illustration above…

  4. Ellen—I found myself singing right along! I LOVE that old song! They aren’t sung near as much as they should be —I can just picture in my mind’s eye—some of the old saints singing that in the choir of the old church at home! Oh what a great memory to hold to today!

Yes, we are expecting the arrival of our 5th grandson anytime now. We are just as excited as if it were the first!!!

Thanks for stopping by—with the Bible Study and so much going on at home….I have not been able to visit like I love to do!

Bless you dear sister—now, I will finish reading on down your page here!!!!

  5. This world is not my home I’m just a pass’in through…….., that will be the song jeanie and I sing on tomorrows phone call!. Thanks for the reminder of this sweet song. It is such an important thought to keep reminding ourselves and not get so caught up in this life here. You did a wonderful job of tying that with the little house book. I have always loved that story and read it not too long ago.

I read all comments and appreciate them.
