This is what the sky has looked like the mornings this week on my walks with Willow. You can barely see the Santa Monica Mountains through the marine haze. It usually burns off by the middle of the afternoon. This looks like a great scene for a science fiction story or horror movie with a title like “Out of the Mist” or “Out of the Marine Layer” How about the first sentence to the thriller… “He appeared one morning out of the mist, off the mountain. Nobody had ever seen him before but one thing was certain, he was not of this world.”
Thanks for your indulgence. Have a great Friday and weekend. It’s a long weekend here in the U.S. since we’re observing Labor Day on Monday.

Photobucket is holding all my photos that I posted on my blog from 2007-2015 hostage and replaced them with big black and grey boxes with threats. So discouraging…as I’m slowly trying to clean up thousands of posts!
Sounds like a bestseller to me, Ellen! Personally, I love the mist! My Sky Watch is in Dogwood today!
I like that picture very much. Don’t the birds make it.
I’m not sure which I like better–the picture or the opening line to your novel!
You are so blessed to have such a lovely walking path!
Hi Ellen,
It does look like an eerie scene – I think the birds make the eerie-ness look even more poignant! 🙂 Great shot though, as always.
By the way, I just sent you an email answering your question! 🙂
Great picture, wonderful opener to a thriller.
Oh I love the look of that mist. Probably because it will be 103 here today.
The mist is both beautiful and creepy in the way of changing the landscape
Wonderful post.
Very rare do we get fogs here, so I found this picture awesome. It’s hard to see when there’s a fog, but sometimes it feels as if walking on the clouds. I just couldn’t help but noticing the birds, too. =)
My Sky Watch pictures are posted here and here. Please have a look if you have time. Thanks a lot!
Very neat, Ellen. Great picture and great book title and opening line!!
That’s beautiful!
Very inspiring, Stephen King should see this. Anyway, I like those birds surveying the expanse through the haze.
wonderful picture. It has so much in the picture
Love IT!
Wow I never would have guessed it’s taken in Santa Monica. Great shot!
The next sentence of that thriller would have those birds flying off with loud squawking! 🙂
Terrific sky!
Lovely, moody photo. It does look like a nice setting for a scary movie, and your book sounds like one I would like to read! 🙂
It does look like a creature from the mist is about to pop out. Very dramatic,
Ellen, a beautiful misty morning; love the green trees with the black birds; such a great contrast. We get misty mornings like this when there is a lot of moisture in the air. I always call it New Guinea because it looks so tropical and we hear the whip birds which makes it even more surreal. I think this is a great, magical picture.
Thank you for your visit.
This is so amazing, like we are just waiting for something to happen. It seems like the kind of scene that writers try to conjure up for us before at the beginning of a fantastic story.
I love this Ellen! It sure puts me in the mood for sweater weather. Reminds me of going to the river on misty mornings with my Grandpa.
Loved your humor – maybe next week you should continue this little story beginning. 🙂
Those birds captured add a sense of poetry to this picture in my eyes.
I can actually imagine them chirping happily together 🙂
How funny! There is a movie called “The Fog.” I believe it’s a remake. Very scary, but a good story line and a fun twist at the end. Woooooo!
that’s a lovely walking atmosphere, ellen. i love the look of the mist & the birds too they don’t feel cold.
happy skywatching!
The way of fortune is like the milkyway in the sky…. Wonderful capture for skywatch! Mine’s up too hope you can drop by, asking for your vote too..Happy weekend!
That was a gray and nice sky, remind me of the could fall is coming . I want summer all year ..-))
The atmosphere in this pic is awesome! I love the sense of mystical wonder! Glorious!
I think those crows (or ravens?) add to the scene of your first line. Terrific photo!
Your shot is so beautifully atmospheric with the cloud shrouding the mountainside. Made for walking and finding lost treasures in.
ellen, an excellent photo to accompany the book you’re writing (you will turn that sentence into a book, right?). That first sentence is dynamite! Happy Labor Day! 🙂
Lovely photo with the birds atop the tree in a mist. I like it very much.
Very nice, moody Sky Watch!
Ellen, re your question at San Francisco Bay Daily Photo, yes, most of the photos “Louis” posts are taken from his balcony!
“Louis” et Mme. la Vache see the Richmond Harbor, Sausalito and Mount Tamalpais (see the post below the one you commented on), Angel Island, Alcatraz Island, the Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco, Treasure Island, Yerba Buena Island and the Oakland-San Francisco Bay Bridge from their balcony!
Great Sky Watch-post!
That mist is beautiful and at the same time mysterious good capture
My son loved looking at those birds! A wonderful view, for us and for those birds as well! Happy skywatching!
Love this misty photo.
What a wonderful view to take your walks on! The fog and clouds are so magical! It makes me think of Fall! Great SWF photo!
Great capture, marvelous view!

Mystic moments, when the marine haze is coming up.
I think about a day in Arroyo Grande on the little pier when the haze started. Got some wonderful photos, but slides.
Have a nice weekend

This is a wonderfully atmospheric shot, I could just imagine some sinister creature lurking in that mist!
