Welcome Summer ~ The Hummingbird

Winged Jewel
(The Huming, Bird)
Feathered fire of emerald .
Aflashing through the air,
Its throat a glowing jewel,
A ruby solitaire.

Intrepid wings are whirring
In airy, fairy flight,
Careening through the sunshine,
A scintillating sprite.

Then pendant o’er flower
It dips its dainty hill
And gathers honeyed nectar
From flowery cup and frill.

Now darting, swiftly turning,
It seeks the trumpet vine,
A little tropic jewel
Aflame with nectared wine.

Photobucket is holding all my photos I stored with them from 2007-2015 hostage. They have blacked out all those photos on my blog posts. OH BOTHER! I’m slowly cleaning up my posts.

  1. Happy summer to you Ellen! This is also my first real day of vacation – sooooo ready! Now I can catch up on your wonderful blog! Love, Jeanie

  2. Oh wonderful capture of the Hummingbird. . .I wait and the hummingbird doesn’t come. . I go about my business and the hummingbird drinks merrily from its feeder. . oh . . I need that camera permanently attached.

  3. That little hummingbird is so sweet! They are such magical birds…curious and friendly…when offered something sweet!
I also lived at Ames Lake…my first real house was there and it was wooded and rather remote at the time. Someday I will drive back and see what has happened to the woods. Ames Lake is probably the smallest lake in Washington State..but it is real! 🙂
Have a nice weekend and rest before your week begins.

  4. that is an exquisite photo. Wonderful. Summer has finally arrived here…but in an overcast way! I am hopping over to the blog now to see what is posted in the way of Yummy Food. I think I heard Lovella was baking pie…wonder if it is posted yet.

    See ya later.
