I was excited to find this Goudge book at the local library. It was the only one of her books on the shelf. I’ll need to read it first since it’s due in October. I’ve read two of her children’s books which I thoroughly enjoyed. Her descriptions are so wonderful.

The Beatrix Potter one sounds really interesting. My nursery is decorated in it and I have read some background on her but nothing comprehensive.

hmm, I see many books on your list that I am not familiar with, but sound really good and thoughtful. I left my list short so I could look around and lift, ahem, get ideas from other’s lists.
I just watched Miss Potter, the book looks good-she really was an interesting person, and I love her art.
The Dean’s watch almost sounds MacDonald-ish, looks good too.

These look like great books- most are new to me, but I did just happen to see Taste and See at the church library this morning as I was perusing! I just may have to read this one soon!

Thanks for stopping by Bibliophile’s Retreat. I don’t know about being a disciplined reader. I just am one of those people who “have to read”. I know about how much I get through in a given amount of time and “scheduling” the books I want to read or have committed to read by a certain time gives me a measure of do I have room to add more to my list and when as well as a concrete tracking tool for meeting deadlines and working through my piles of books. ;~D

Hood by Stephen Lawhead is very good, but it took me a while to really get into it. I kept waiting to get to the point of the story, you know? But taken as a whole and read with the understanding that this book is just the beginning of the entire story, it’s classic Lawhead. Scarlet is the 2nd book, and I can’t wait to read it. My sons (ages 17 and 14) have scheduled a rock-paper-scissors tournament for the day I receive Scarlet ~ the winner gets to read the book as soon as I’m done (the loser has to wait until the winner’s done reading it)! LOL

I’m hearing a lot of good things about the Peace like a River book. I’ve also heard a lot of praise for Elizabeth Goudge, altho I haven’t read any. I LOVE Dorothy Sayers.

Tales of Beatrix Potter sounds interesting; I haven’t started my Peace like a River one yet. Hubby went to hear John Piper last year and enjoyed him.
