If Death My Friend and Me Divide
If death my friend and me divide,
Thou dost not, Lord, my sorrow chide,
Or frown my tears to see;
Restrained from passionate excess,
Thou bidst me mourn in calm distress
For them that rest in Thee.
I feel a strong immortal hope,
Which bears my mournful spirit up
Beneath its mountain load;
Redeemed from death, and grief, and pain,
I soon shall find my friend again
Within the arms of God.
Pass a few fleeting moments more
And death the blessing shall restore
Which death has snatched away;
For me Thou wilt the summons send,
And give me back my parted friend
In that eternal day.

I imagine you are thinking of sweet Kathy. She is resting at the hospital at this moment and and as far I know hasn’t gone “home” yet. We are trusting in the Lord’s perfect timing. Thank you for being such a wonderful friend to Kathy.
Yes, Jeanie. I’m with all of you in spirit as you go through this with Kathy. Sending prayers, love and hugs down south to all of you…
Whatever the thoughts our situation that prompts this hymn, may the mercy and peace of God be present in it, dear Ellen.
The hymn tells the truth – that our loss today holds the promise of a joyous reunion in the future. I’m sorry for whatever you may be facing at this time, Ellen. xo
I have never heard this hymn before, but I love it. Thanks for sharing it, Ellen.
I had never heard this hymn before, either, but what a blessing. It expresses our only real comfort in the loss of Christian friends and loved ones.
Perfect song for what is going on in your life right now….Soon she will be resting in the arms of Jesus.
So touching, and comforting at the same time… I am thinking of Miss Baby’s namesake who has gone to be with the Lord.
