Thy Word is Like a Garden, Lord
Thy Word is like a garden, Lord, with flowers bright and fair;
And every one who seeks may pluck a lovely cluster there.
Thy Word is like a deep, deep mine; and jewels rich and rare
Are hidden in its mighty depths for every searcher there.
Thy Word is like a starry host: a thousand rays of light
Are seen to guide the traveler and make his pathway bright.
Thy Word is like an armory, where soldiers may repair;
And find, for life’s long battle day, all needful weapons there.
O may I love Thy precious Word, may I explore the mine,
May I its fragrant flowers glean, may light upon me shine!
O may I find my armor there! Thy Word my trusty sword,
I’ll learn to fight with every foe the battle of the Lord.
Words: Edwin Hodder, The New Sunday School Hymn Book, 1863.
Wonderful analogies of God’s precious word. I would love to hear this sung.
Another new one to me. I love the words; I’d love to hear the tune, too!
Beautiful picture and lovely hymn. I am not familiar with this one.
This one is new to me too! But oh, those words! Lovely. As is the picture.
Love this hymn especially this line
O may I love Thy precious Word, may I explore the mine
Amen what a treasure the Word is!
Amen to what Lana G. said! That was my favorite line too! What a beautiful visual I had in my little head as I read this sweet hymn.
I popped over here this morning, but didn’t leave a comment as I was running late for church. Then I meant to stop by this afternoon, but while out antiquing I came across a wonder too amazing to pass up. So I spent the rest of the day cleaning my guest room to make a space for my new wonder. I’ll probably post about her Tuesday! Yes, “her.”
I hope you had an absolutely wonderful weekend Ellen B.

Hi MM~ No this is not Dogwood. I love Dogwood too. I think some kind of plum..
What a beautiful hymn!!! I am going to find the tune that goes with the hymn. Thanks for sharing!
My younger sister sang this song in Sunday School in the 1970’s. She had a sweet voice. What a memory it brought back! I love your blog…
