Singing Across England

The summers of 1973 and 1974 were highlighted by tours in England with the Contemporaries. The Contemporaries were a Christian Rock Group on a mission to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ with concerts and personal testimonies. This last weekend some of the members of this group from forty some years ago got together for a reunion in Southern California. Dear and I were not able to attend but we were texted photos of the event.

Five of these members that got together this past weekend are in the photo below from the seventies.

We are all a little bit older today.  Dear and I are in the upper row on the right.

My pop and me at the airport before we left for one of our tours to England in 1973.

Tea was delivered to our bedroom door each morning and I enjoyed it in bed…

I was always taken aback when we’d be surrounded by school children wanting our autographs.

Once in a while I’ll be posting flashbacks on Fridays as I catch up on scanning old photos. It’s another way to document some of the events in our lives. Wow! It’s Labor Day Weekend already. We will mostly stay at home except for a Sounders Soccer game on Saturday night and church on Sunday. What do you have planned? Do you get Monday off?

  1. I enjoyed seeing all these pictures from your early years, Ellen. How nice that Greg was already in your life back then so you can share these memories. I can see why you like going back to England so much. A way of reliving those great times. I wish I could have heard that choir. I’m sure we’d have been among your fans back then.

  2. Fun trip in the Way Back Machine. Also fun to see you being swamped by autograph seekers. Now that’s something most of us will never experience.

  3. What a fun trip down your memory lane. You were famous!!! and your smile is still exactly as beautiful as it was back then. We just had a visit tonight with some friends who LOVE the UK and mentioned many of these places that they have visited over the years. Really enjoyed this post Ellen!

  4. What fun to see England through your young eyes of 40+ years ago!
Someday I want to hear the story of how you and Dear joined that group of singers.
This weekend? Church tomorrow, dinner with friends Monday evening. Other than that–just resting at home.

  5. I am playing catch up this morning and I almost missed this post! I’m glad I didn’t, because I so enjoyed seeing the youthful excitement and faces and (I must admit) fashion in these photos! What a wonderful experience that must have been!

  6. Loved the pictures from that time! Some of the clothes made me laugh, especially the great big wide bottomed pants. I remember those very well. Nice that you all had a reunion.
